Massive park that serves as a golf course, boating lake, ball sports, walking and flowers
Lovely piece of green on the edge of city centre.
We walked and scooted through a few times in our 4 days there and even walked through @ 10PM at...More
This is a park that also serves as a rough golf course. People do sit down and have a swing. A lot of people use this park to exercise and many of them zoom around with scooters you can rent. So you have to watch...More
How amazing to have such a fantastic park in the centre of your City. Walked around Hagley Park; through it; over it and inside the Botannical Gardens.
It is an amazing place and well worth the visit.

One of the best Botanical Gardens I have visited (and I've seen a few during travels). So well laid out, so easy to get around (especially for wheelchairs, prams etc). A good playground, a wonderful cafe. So peaceful and relaxing.

Please feedback my South Island itinerary (5 Replies)
My wife and I are planning a trip to the South Island sometimes this December (2015). I've started an initial pass of an itinerary and would like some critiques (in case some parts of the trip does not make sense) and feedbacks so that we can make the most of our times there: Day 1: Fly into Queenstown. Rent a car and drive to Te Anau. On the way, explore Kawarau Gorge (where the scene of Argonath was filmed in the first LoTR movie). Then take in the view at Devil Staircase. Arrive at Te...More

Presumably your arrival into Queenstown isn't your first day in NZ? The Kawarau Gorge and Te Anau are in two completely different directions. It is not a good idea to drive to Te Anau and then onto the start of the Routeburn on day 1, it is simply too far. You have, it would appear, greatly underestimated drive times in NZ.
9 day South Island itinerary - advice pls (5 Replies)
Hi, we are 2 families travelling to South Island during 1st week of December. We are 4 adults and 3 kids (aged 10,7,3). The plan is to arrive in Christchurch on Saturday noon and fly out from Queenstown on the next Sunday noon, giving us 7 full days and 2 half days. We plan to rent out a car in Christchurch and return it in Queenstown. The following is my plan - Day 1 Saturday - Reach Christchurch at 1pm. Spend in Christchurch (Botanic gardens, Cathedral square, Hagley park) Day 2...More

13 day NZ first pass (14 Replies)
SO excited, I just booked flights for 13 days in NZ for me and my husband Oct 27-Nov 8 (kids are off at school). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. *NI mainly for the culture (my best friend is Maori from north of Rotorua) and history (not into crowds or shopping but I enjoy a good museum and a good haka ;) *SI for beautiful and unusual scenery (culture & history too) - I have a bad knee but want at least one hike plus other...More

Sorry to burst your bubble, Jean, but try as I might, I can't fit an AKL to QTN road trip into less than 14-16 days. Some of your days are too long ( and some appear twice eg 7 & 8!) Assuming you spend 4 days between AKL & Rotorua, my suggestion is to FLY to CHC on day 5: 5. Arr CHC (2N) 6. Day trip to Akaroa - dolphin cruise 7. Drive to Aoraki-Mt Cook - short hikes eg Kea Point (2N) 8. Glacier Explorers boat cruise among the icebergs etc 9. Drive to QTN (2N) 10. Adventure...More
