This is a beautiful scenic walk, along with some great history around the gun emplacements. You can start at a number of different spots along the path depending on your level of fitness and how much walking you are willing to do and what parts you want to see. Make sure to take water and food with you in case you decide to go further than planned. Put on plenty of sunscreen and take a hat, there is not much in the way of shade. Highly recommend this as a place to visit. The roads are narrow and used by car's and cyclists so make sure to take your time and drive with care.

Great views to be had up here. Can get pretty windy in places so even if it’s warmer down below I’d take some warm clothes up with you. Perfect for walkers and runners alike, and its such a good place to be just as the sun is rising

This is an great walk along a stunning bit of coastline, the path is akin to a tropical Devon/Cornwall costal path! The coastal gun emplacement is currently fenced off, however, it is possible to get through and explore. There is lots of information and lots to see in a small site. This walk is a must do if you're in the Christchurch area!

Its about 30min drive from Christchurch. Parking is for free. You can do 3h loop hike, but we did shorter track that was about an hour.
Beautiful for sunset, but beware: the parking closes at 8pm.
Public toilets available.

There are stunning views from Godley head. My husband and I did not walk far but even the drive up had wonderful views. The road up is quite windy and it can feel like a like you are a bit close to the edge at times but it's perfectly manageable if you keep at a slow speed. I loved walking through the fields full of sheep and taking in the view. This is a great scenic spot in Christchurch.

We were very surprised by Godley because we had not read anything about it in any travel articules. it is a marvelous place with amazing views. There were many paragliders soaring around which made for some interesting colorful views in the sky. We did the hike up to the old WWii gun placements and were rewarded with amazing views. I great place to go and only a 40 minute drive, GO.

Had a couple hours before we were due at the airport so drove from our hotel in downtown Christchurch out the windy but well paved roads to this great viewpoint over the Pacific. Hiked out through the sheep meadows on the way.

We had just arrived from USA, picked up our campervan and decided we wanted a few days to recover and acquaint ourselves with our home for the stay. This is a short drive from the airport, but make sure you provision first and drive slow on the windy road. I get the feeling this is a local gem, maybe because it's a windy road or maybe because of it's proximity to the city but if was full of GLORIOUS views. We did the track that is connected to the campground and it was one of our favorites with sea views the entire time. Breathtaking and not too steep. We extended the trip into Sumner and what a treat. Find the Bohemian Bakery , it doesn't disappoint in all it's sourdough and crusty bread offerings. Seeing the flowers, surfers, vistas... all made it a memorable campsite. No showers - just toilets. Suck it up and you won't regret it.

Came out here and hiked around and up to Taylor's Mistake. One of my personal favourite hikes around CHC. Lots of sheep wandering around, beach views, and switchback trails.

This is a coastal pathway that can be steep in places. This is not that hard a walk measuring a loop of about 4 kilometers. You can stop and return at any time.

It offers great coastal views and is popular with both dog walkers and joggers. You will find sheep on the slopes both above and below the path.

Probably advisable not to do this walk if there is the possibility of adverse weather as you are exposed the whole way.
