    exciting .. great place.
Great place,. very exciting.. i felt bad for the Gorillas.. as classes of kids go in and no one to tell them to get off the bit that says do no stand and they tap the window and the gorillas got annoyed. maybe have watcher there when kids go in ?? there were cameras but that doesnt do much. was horible seeing them running to the window trying to break it. hoping one day you can get a female gorilla in. is great to see there are free bbqs, just take your food in and cook and bbq.. there is a cafe there as well. the staff were lovely, with a lovely lady driving round in the bus cart thing. very informative. is a lot of walking.. you can hire out prams for kids.. and wheelchairs.. there is a first aid place .. cafe and shop.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review following your visit. We are pleased you enjoyed your time at the Park. It saddens us to hear visitors were upsetting our amazing gorilla boys, I will pass this on to our visitor services team to keep an eye on. Thank you again for your feedback it is greatly appreciated.

    Magical visit!
This was a fantastic experience! The giraffe feeding was magical and such a highlight. We loved seeing all of the animals. The tiger and lions were so majestic. Our favourite was the gorillas who were just mesmerising! The Cafe on-site is fantastic and we had a great lunch! The gift shop also had some really awesome gifts. Thanks Orana!
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review! We are so please you had such a magical visit to the Park, meeting so many of our incredible animals. We hope to see you again in the future.

    Amazing animal viewings
Great day out for the family. I see that there have been some poor reviews but we had a day where we got great sightings of all the animals - even saw 2 kiwis! We found the staff speeches at feeding knowledgeable. The enclosures could always be larger but generally it seemed that the enclosures were well kept. Even though it was a wet day, we loved our visit.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review Lee. We are so pleased you and your family had a great day at the Park and were able to see so many of our precious animals including the iconic kiwi! We hope to see you again in the future.

Well worth the trip. Wish we had longer
Did the tiger experience tour with our adult kids. Was such a great experience to get up close to Reggie and learn all about him from the keepers Caitlin and Colin. Also loved seeing the only Gorillas in NZ. The giraffes were another favourite and feeding time with the lions.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review Jackie! We are so pleased you and your family had such a great experience at the Park, especially getting up close with Reggie our beautiful sumatran tiger. We are glad you had such a great trip and hope to see you again :)

We visited this park when our children were young. 20 years on we could not believe how instead of moving forward it has certainly gone backwards.
There were not many animals at all. A huge area to walk around and to get to lots of areas to see virtually no animals it was a real let down to our little grandchildren. They were excited to see tigers and Lions up close. The grass in the dens had long grass taller than the animals in a lot of places. they all looked tired and depressed. Barely saw any animals standing apart fromthe giraffes and the buffalo.
It cost enough for the state of the grounds. We saw people driving around slowly in delapidated vehicles.
We understand it costs a lot of money to run these parks but really we left feeling we won't be coming back or encouraging anyone else to bring their children there.
When we took our children there years prior it was far superior.

We travelled especially from out of town to visit here on Friday 18th September and arrived about 10.30am I was travelling with my elderly parents and was informed there was a zoo shuttle we could get off and on during our trip to the park.
The elderly woman who drove the shuttle was very educated and extremely informative about the park and its animals. The shuttle stopped at each labelled spot for about 30 seconds so there was no time to get off for a few minutes to take some photos or observe the animals in their enclosures which was very disappointing as most of the stops were a long distance away from seeing the actual animals.
We decided to get off the shuttle to have some lunch and was informed it would be back around in an hour to pick us up again, great we thought as my parents have mobility issues it be great to get off have some lunch and a wee wander around to stretch our legs
We walked to the spider monkeys and had an awesome time there as we were very grateful to experience them at feeding time.In the back of all our minds was the fact that we had to watch out for the shuttle returning so we purposely hung around the area where the shuttle was to pick up us again.
I was getting abit restless so I decided to walk back to the entry/exit area and see some of the exhibits on the way while my parents waited for the shuttle to return.
once I nearly got back to the entry i was horrified to discover that the shuttle was parked up in the same place were we had embarked on the start of our journey on the shuttle.
Confused by this I rang my mums mobile to see if the shuttle was coming (as i assumed there was more than one) I then walked back to collect my parents as it was clear the shuttle wasn't going anywhere. The trip back to the main entrance was so painful for both my parents who have difficulty walking a short distance anyway let alone on uneven gravel roads.
Many of the enclosures were empty or had signs saying"coming soon" or "animals are in hibernation" which was so disappointing.
I do realise that all animals are not always out or available for the entire year but would have been nice to have been told they weren't on display at the entrance as I was really looking forward to seeing the tortoise, lemur and frog sections which were empty.
The buildings themselves were extremely run down and dirty and even experienced many other people manly children commenting how they couldn't see into some of the glass enclosures they were so dirty.I do understand some of the state of disrepair may be due to the rustic experience of Orana park
all of us were very disappointed as we had looked forward to going here as hadn't been for many years and wanted to support local business.
We may have been given the wrong information but this is unacceptable as my parents could have waited for another hour or so to be picked up again.
We made our concerns known to the staff at the entrance/exit and they even checked to see what had happened and were told it had run
There were 3 of us and I find it impossible to believe that all of us didn't see the shuttle go past
I work in the Hospitality Sector and never complain about these types of things as there are always mistakes or things that don't go to plan but this was truly one of worst experiences we have ever had.
I hope in the future you are able to rectify this problem we encountered overall a very disappointing day out.

The last time I visited Orana Park was probably 15 - 20years ago, as a child. We visited Orana Park yesterday with our son as I had fond memories of it and wanted to share the experience with my boy.
The park is expensive to get into (over $80 for two adults and a child). So the price at entry does set certain expectations. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed at how run down the place has become. Other than the gorilla enclosure (which appears relatively new) the place seems to have been completely let go and is in dire need of some general maintenance. General upkeep areas such as signs, footpaths and mowing / weeding does not regularly receive attention. There were a number of empty sites - which added to the feeling of poor value for money.
I feel the park should probably have one or two full time landscaping / caretakers keeping things tidy.
The animals were good - probably the best part was the gorilla's.

Great experience for families, especially with younger kids! Staff knowledge and friendly. Cafe on site with a good selection of food for both adults and kids alike. There is also a park with flying fox and the usual.

The enclosures look well kept and animals were doing what animals do, sleeping, eating, playing. Easy to spot most animals too which made the outing more enjoyable.

$80 ish for a family of 4 also seemed really reasonable considering we spent a good 3 hours there.

I was a bit disappointed with this experience. I had thought seeing New Zealand's only Gorilla's , that I would have been wowed, but maybe my expectations were just too high. We did get to see the Gibbons calling, and saw 2 of the 3 gorillas who didn't do a heck of a lot, but they are not there for our entertainment anyway. It was difficult to see them in most of the enclosure where they reside, and if you're under 6 foot, don't even try viewing them anywhere other than inside (unless they are up the top where the activities are) because you will struggle to see them. Most of the animals were asleep, absent (out for brunch maybe?) or preferred to show us their rear ends! I would rather wait to be able to travel to Sydney and go to Taronga zoo instead.

We had an OK day, the park is an nice visit.
There was a couple of empty exhibits but this seemed to be because of some being combined in larger buildings. All the animals looked healthy.
There's a wee petting zoo with sheep, alpacas, llama, chickens, turkeys and a pig which you could feed.
Nice cafe and a children's play area on site.
We got around it in a couple of hours.

A nice day out to wonder around and see the animals. Especially enjoyed the gorilla's!

The place is looking a bit tired though and seems to be needing maintenance so not sure if they are lacking in funding.

Went to the café when we arrived for coffee - not overly impressed with the service and the coffee was hot which was the best thing about it however decided to go back for lunch. Really not impressed with the service, food was average and prices were okay but to be honest, next time we'll just head on out and find a place nearby.

Never again. So much walking to see the animals. The big cats were disappointing. No cheetahs, four lionesses, one tiger very well hidden in the very long grass. Only saw him at feeding time and difficult for the kids to view as the adults pressed up against the rails so had to basically push the kids through.
The children were told off for standing on the rails at the meercat enclosure but to view them at the kids level was impossible to see them through the glass and we had been at the park for nearly five hours by then and to be honest I almost was ready to strangle people!! Most disappointing were the empty enclosures that I was unsure if anything was there, ie the porcupines. One small notice to say it was empty on one window. Not sure if that meant no porcupine or just that one part of the enclosure.
The shuttle!! With six wee kiddies, three seat belts on each seat that was fun. I thought the shuttle would pause at each display but no, I felt almost growled at when disembarking at the gorilla area. And then we barely saw one again. For the amount of walking we wound up doing it would have been nice if the shuttle paused at each stop for 10 minutes.
All in all I felt disappointed as it used to be a wonderful park. Def not worth the cost. Though the kids enjoyed the map!! I felt a walk in the forest would have been easier!
The staff were reasonably helpful with alot of young, excited people obviously getting a great work experience. I know the animals welfare is paramount, just hard to think like that when you are walking for miles and not sure if you will actually see anything, ie the tiger enclosure. Once again a sign to tell people which enclosure has the tiger in it would have been helpful as there was a fairly big area to walk around and lots of empty long grass paddocks to see. I actually started to think it was a have!!

Visited this wildlife park and it was wonderful. We done the lion encounter which was well worth the money. A unique up close once in a lifetime experience to have. Was also great that they tell you when they feed the animal so you get to get up close to the enclosures to see the animals when there fed. You also get the chance to feed giraffes which is another goid experience to have.
Be aware though that if your an international visitor you do get charged an extra fee.

Hadn't been to Orana Park since I was a teenager many moons ago, today I went with my husband and 20 month old daughter. Pro of Orana Park is that the animals have loads of space to themselves, however, this does mean that you need to do quite a bit of walking. At least 3 enclosures did not have animals in them which was disappointing, and because the areas are bigger, it can be difficult to spot the animals. I would highly recommend getting the feeding encounters as these are well worth it for getting up close and personal with the animals.
