This is worth doing on a clear day. The views of Christchurch and surrounding countryside are spectacular but easily obscured when the mist or low cloud rolls in- which it did!

Visited over the weekend with friends to try the new lunch menu in the restaurant. The view was stunning so a nice setting to enjoy our meals. The menu choice ticked all the boxes with sufficient variety to meet our needs including vegetarian .Portion sizes ideal and presentation excellent. Our friends were visiting from Wellington and the visit was highlight... More

We always take overseas guest up the gondola as it's the best way to view the beauty and formation of chiristchurch and Lyttleton. How ever 4 adults (2 on one way tickets) cost nearly $100! For about 10 mins travel. Once in the building it's very sad looking with very bleak cafe and over stocked gift shop. The large airial... More

Wonderful way to overlook Christchurch and Lyttleton. Loved the 360 view. Staff could've definitely been a bit friendlier though - If you don't like your job don't work there.

Bought the ticket at the tourist information near the musuem. The bus talking you there goes from outside the museum. It is about a 15 min trip so you get to see more of Christchurch. The gondola goes quite high up and the view is fantastic

After being stuck in a broken carriage for 2 hours, hot and sweating, children upset this was minimised by management as no big deal. We were due to leave when when this happened so we missed out on a family BBQ we had all been looking forward to. The only compensation we have received is a refund for the ride.

I would like to apologise for your less than ideal Gondola experience on Saturday. We hope you understand that this breakdown and subsequent repair was something that could not be rushed as the safety of our customers is our priority. Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and we are sorry you missed your family barbecue. More

Reg our previous kiwi tram driver and guide was driving 'The Grand Tour' bus which took us from the Botanical Gardens to the Gondola. (I'm beginning to think Reg has been cloned). Took previous advice riding the Gondola up the mountain and then walking down the bridle trail to Lyttelton. Loved it, great views all round at the top (we... More

If you need to choose between this or the one in Queenstown, my vote is on the later. Not much activity but a cafe up top and provide 360 views of the area.

We thought it was quite expensive and the views are good but not amazing from the top. There is an amusing "ride" at the top of the gondola that lasts about 6 minutes and skips quickly though the whole history of NZ, with the aid of the most annoying young girl as commentator. There is a big car park. I... More

This is one way to get a overview of Christchurch and the surrounding areas. I though it was a bit expensive.
