Villa Maria is worth the visit and wine tasting. It would have been nice if a little more was on offer, a space to sit down and relax and enjoy a lunch would have been great. Friendly staff, with a whole lot to share on the history and wine.

This was a return visit for us after many years - it's my wife's favourite wine. There was no change to the layout of the cellar door which is fairly functional - a smallish room with a bar counter for two or three staff and lots of bottles and merchandise on display. We experienced the services of both the counter staff on duty that day, who swopped around midway to enable one to cover a small group who had arrived. They were helpful with their explanations of the wines and friendly. The tastings included seven wines - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir Rose, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merolt/Cab and a desert wine. As I was driving I had a sip of each although my wife was able to enjoy the experience more! We decided to order wine for delivery back to the UK. A dozen bottles which included two each of five of those tasted and a couple of bottles of Reserve Clifford Bay which is not commonly seen back home. During the placing of this order amounting to $659 (including shipping of $125) we were asked to step back from the counter whilst it was completed to allow others who had arrived to move forward to get tastings. I was able to step forward at an appropriate moment and squeeze back in to confirm the details and enter my PIN for the card transaction. I felt that all that was missing was the call for "next please!" Whilst a bit off-hand, what was more disappointing than this was, despite the indication that the wine would take up to 6 weeks to get delivered to the UK, it has only just turned up recently on 28 July, over 19 weeks later. The Covid-19 lockdown has been experienced in the interim of course which partially explains matters albeit freight has continued throughout I'm sure. At one point we thought our own delay in getting home may have resulted in the wine making it back before us (our neighbours were happy to be on standby to receive it in our absence). However we hadn't allowed for it going by a very slow boat and our neighbours services were never required much to their disappointment. We got home on 19 April, three weeks later than expected. On reflection placing the order on Friday 13th was maybe chancing our luck. Nice enough visit but the slow delivery of wine ordered took a shine off things and had us worried at one stage. The wine when opened may compensate!

Villa Maria, one of the larger wineries to visit and one of the best , such a diverse range of wines, a must to visit. Host Adam is a real show stealer, incredibly knowledgeable and oh so funny, a credit to the industry
