Having visited here in 2018 when last in New Zealand, we were looking forward to visiting again during our recent visit.
What makes Hunters special, apart of course from the wines, are the beautiful and tranquil gardens, the friendly and knowledgable staff, and the cheese and meat sharing platters!
We decided to get a taxi there and back so we could enjoy the wines, and the tastings at $5 per person was good value. We also ordered a cheese and meat platter, which was wonderful, accompanied by glasses of Hunters Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
A thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Helen saved it! Great Wines, History and Beautiful Setting.
Unfortunately when we arrived for our first stop for the day, the duty manager came off extremely passive aggressive and somewhat disgusted that we had not made a booking for a tasting for 11 people during the general Christmas/NY’s period. However. After being asked if we were in hurry, which we were not, it appeared easy enough to find us a table for our tasting amongst the many other tables that were vacant for the near hour that we were there.
Helen saved it! Helen guided our tasting from there and was so incredibly gracious and helpful to getting everything underway. Helen also explained the situation around time of year and why bookings are great (without being offensive), which we completely understood, but apologetically had let slip as we were very much in holiday mode!
Helen took us through the beautiful wines available, while making us all smile and laugh and shared the rich history and tales of the winery.
Ultimately, we personally probably wouldn’t go back due to the duty managers behaviour, however we would still highly recommend going along and visiting for yourself for the great wines, history, beautiful setting and great staff in Helen and likely others!

Our group of 11 arrived out of the blue on a Saturday morning, we received a very friendly greeting and were seated out on the terrace. Wine tastings followed, accompanied by information about the wines and a brief history of the winery. Thanks so much for our warm welcome, the wines were delicious and several bottles were purchased. We definitely hope to be back.

We popped into Hunter Wine for a tasting at about 3.20pm knowing they close at 4.00pm.
We were greeted in a most friendly way and invited out to the garden to sit and enjoy the surroundings and a tasting. The lady taking care of us (and please accept our apologies for not remembering your name) was a delight, so friendly, knowledgeable and informative. We were so impressed with her.
There is a great variety of wines to taste and whilst we were not necessarily looking to buy we ended up purchasing 12 bottles of different types. They even arrange shipping for only $8.
This is an unpretentious winery clearly operated with love and we highly recommend a visit.

We arrived on Wednesday, 16 November around mid-morning. We didn't see the black on black sign saying that the cellar was closed. We entered the building and the staff were so rude. Apparently the cellar and restaurant were closed for a private function. We were treated as persona non grata. They reluctantly sold me a bottle of Riesling after I explained it was a gift for a friend and we wouldn't be able to return as it was the last day of our trip. Disappointed and definitely won't recommend.

We had a great experience stopping in at Hunters for a wine tasting on our wine tour on bikes! The tasting was really good value for money, getting to try 8 different wines. We were served by a really lovely lady, who was so friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. We were sat in a lovely garden
Went home with a bottle of the delicious Reisling

We were lucky Jane Hunter was there and provided some guidance to our group:-). We (a largish group) were seated inside) Invoiced the also lovely outdoor setting.
All wines were rather interesting. Generous wine tour samples provided. And great story telling to describe each wine.
Nice location, people and interesting wines.

Whilst right on the "main" road it was a peaceful place in a lovely building. Great setting and knowledgeable staff who were engaging and insightful about not only the wines but the history. The wines was delicious, so much so it made a dent in the bank account!

Found the Hunter's Wines Cellar driving along the road. What a wonderful find! Really relaxed atmosphere, sat in a lovely garden with knowledable staff conducting the tasting. Wine was great and we look forward to drinking what we purchased on the remainder of our NZ adventure.

Great Kiwi welcome. Helen looked after us extremely well despite being rushed off her feet as other colleagues were attending Blenheim wine fair. Very knowledgeable with lots of anecdotes. Amazing to learn that the wine business here was started by a chap from Belfast!
