Stayed in Blenheim for the month of January with my daughter who lives on Rapaura Road - so we visited a number of wineries.
This winery at the very end of Rapaura Rd is delightful. We had booked for lunch. We arrived ordered our food then then went for a wine tasting whilst the food was being prepared.
The person who conducted our wine tasting was charming, knowledgable and full full of enthusiasm.
It helped us make a decision of which wines to pair with our food.
The food menu is not extensive but the food was beautifully prepared and the whole experience was relaxed and totally enjoyable.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch here sitting on the patio. A beautiful setting.

Our food was really tasty. We shared the bread to start with dips, and then one of us had the salmon salad which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the burger. For the vegetarian version of the burger they use roasted cauliflower and it was truly divine. And I must say, the best fries I have ever had in my life. Fantastic.

Oh, and the wine was good too :)
We would recommend.

Lucky we were warned to book only got a 2pm booking but glad we did. Pate was substantial and plenty for two. Duck was exceptional and well balanced. Mussel soup and bread was very good. No room for desert. Highly recommended.

No idea if the wine side of the business is any good, but the Number 11 restaurant side of should be a case study in self-involved food failure. The place is not shy about telling you how fantastic they think they are. They reach American levels of self-promotion in that regard, and they reach European levels of pricing on what are, at heart, very basic items.

Basic food done very well is well worth it.

That is not what you will find here. While the setting is lovely and the wait staff are .... trying their best with clearly limited training in service, the real problem is simply the food. It's expensive for what it really is and it's massively underwhelming.

The menu plays a good game at selling you the contents. I'm not a huge fan of over-selling the food and prefer the descriptions to be accurate and accessible: you want people to know what they ordering and get what they're expecting. Fluffing to the point of incomprehensibility is self-defeating IMO.

And then when it gets down to it, the FOOD HAS TO DELIVER. In this case, it doesn't. Not even close. From the plating itself to the portions to the food companion choices to the taste - it's all just substandard. I have seen BurgerFuel do a better job of presentation and taste.

An example: If you're charging me NZ$25 for a side dish then I don't expect it to arrive with wax paper under it like I'd get Appleby's or Nandos. I'd expect it to be properly presented and appealingly plated. If I'm paying top dollar for a lamb meal I also wouldn't expect it to be a basic bit of baked lamb completely hidden under a grossly excessive sea of tasteless pesto-like goo and other plantlife pretending to be garnishment, with what for all the world tasted like a bitter & burnt soy sauce reduction. No wonder the staff never bothered to ask how things were. I suspect they're in on the gag.

The dishes we tried came out in a seemingly random order. I guess the kitchen can't plan or execute on timing plates within a cover. Even a side of fries managed to come out after almost everything else and were over cooked. How do you do that?! (The oil they were cooked in was, at least, clean.)

I could certainly go on, but like the bill & the food, it's all just too depressing.

All in all, given the dozens upon dozens of options for winery food available at every turn in the area, this place would be my last choice to ever visit again.

We were keen to return to the recently reopened Number 11 Restaurant at Wairau River Cellar door, so booked for lunch.
Nice greeting and service. We started with bread, but it was on its own without butter or oil.
The lamb chop small plate entree was truly delicious, with a great sauce. However, the larger gnocchi plate was less tasty.
We ordered two desserts to share. The cake was OK, but the pannacotta was runny instead of properly set.
The accompanying Sauvignon Blanc was excellent.
So, a mixed bag really!

On our day in Marlborough we enjoyed ourselves at many wineries, but Wairau River stand out because it serves delicious food along with their lovely wines. The wine tasting experience was very enjoyable and educational. The staff helped up with great pairings as well. We took some lovely photos and enjoyed our time at Wairau River.

We really liked this place. The wine was delicious and very affordable compared to many places around. We bought three bottles and can't wait to break one open!

I was on a bike wine tour of Renwick and saved this winery for our last visit . My self and a colleague wanted to buy a bottle of rosé and the lady working said we are closed soon , it was 4pm and closing at half 4 totally understandable however her whole attitude with us was dismissive and it became quite clear she didn’t want anyone disrupting the closing time . So disappointed with the customer service and her lack of eagerness to look after us as Guests . There are so many amazing organic wines in the region and we certainly will not be stocking this wine in our restaurant due to the neglection and dismissive attitude of the lady service us , rolling eyes and all .

Stopped in for lunch after reading positive reviews and my expectations were definitely exceeded. I had pate and salmon salad, both superb and the quality I would expect to find in a fine dining restaurant. The wine is comparable and I ended up buying a couple bottles. Highly recommend!
