A lovely old building and arcade. It has kept a lot of its historical appeal even with new shops and cafes operating in the building.

You can walk through and read historical info at your leisure.

I found it a little pricey in the cafes but the food was good and it is in the CBD.

The Old Bank Arcade is exactly that, a shopping arcade within the premises of a former bank. Evidence of the old banking chamber is there to behold - the classical columns, the high ornate ceilings, the stained timber, the tessellated tiles etc, all beautifully restored, and I thought this the most impressive aspect of the site. Nowadays the site is occupied by a line-up of very elegant and no doubt expensive boutique-style stores including several upmarket cafes. With not so much as a tile out of place, to me it was perhaps all a bit too perfect. For those who know the QVB in Sydney, the Old Bank restoration was apparently done by the same company

When we first entered this very old, building with stunning architecture, we thought what a great way to use the building with a shopping arcade. We were then directed by our guide to the bottom floor where we we got to see the Inconstant ship wreck through a glass floor with signs explaining it's voyage and how it was found under the bank building. I bet hundreds of people never went down to see it but were in the building shopping.

This was a pleasant change from the sameness of most of the shopping along Lambton Quay. We enjoyed a coffee and double chocolate brownie at Smiths as well. It was good to see that Wellington cares for its heritage buildings.

This shopping arcade is impressive. It has several shops, businesses and food joints. The building is historical as it used to be formerly, Bank of New Zealand. Certainly worth visiting.

This building dates from 1901 when the Head Office of the Bank of NZ opened here. it fell into disrepair after the bank closed. In the 1990s the building was restored by the same company that restored the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney.
Now it holds a number of cafes and other shops.
If you go upstairs, on the hour, you can watch the clock open and reveal a little story about the history of the building.
Downstairs you can see the remains of the sailing ship, Plimmers Ark, which was left high and dry after the 1855 earthquake.
If you are in the area it is worth strolling through this building.

Worth a look if you're nearby. They have an interesting selection of unique fashion stores, plus a few good cafes - including the last remaining Starbucks in the CBD. Travel down stairs to view some of the remains of an historic ship and learn a bit about the history of the building. If you happen to visit on the hour, make your way up to the balcony on the second floor and listen to the short history of the arcade as told via the mechanised clock. You are also able to reach the willis st food court via the underground tunnel found on the lower level.

We had a stroll through the Old Bank Shopping Arcade recently when visiting Wellington. It is beautifully restored with a variety of shops including eateries. Don't forget to go downstairs and have a look at the old Bank Safe in the lower level. On the ground level there is the unique opening clock, which is something to see. It is well worth a visit when visiting Wellington, in the main business district.

This is a beautifully restored building with old wood and features in keeping with the era the building was built. The shops in here are beautiful and high quality.
