I like this outing. You are still in a city but so far from the noise. It is a beautiful break not too far.

Makara Beach is my go to when I want to be by the sea. It has a range of coastal walks to go on and is great for the dogs to swim. On cold days it is cold ( obviously) but if you wear warm...More

Was a rather cold, wet and windy day in Wellington but only having 3 days in the capital you make the most of it. Road to get to the beach is narrower then I like which makes for an interesting drive. Once we got there...More

It's a stony beach located about 40 minutes from the city. You can go via Johnsonville (long way) or Karori (short way). While there's not much to see on the beach, in the water is good for swimming and scuba diving. Take care as the...More

this beach is great if you can visit it on a calm day. That would probably mean during winter or on a very windy day. Otherwise you might be doing the polonaise with other tourists. But the place has a great view if you take...More

Always loved this wild beach...windswept, beautiful, often big waves. Popular with the fishermen in our family. My daughter lives there now. We all love Makara and its loving, caring community.

Very special place. Had the chance to get there on a nice sunny afternoon with light winds and it was fantastic. One scenic location after another. Didn't need to walk far from the beach to get to real stunning ridges. Will come back!

About 30min scenic drive from Wellington CBD will get you to a typical NZ stoney black sand beach, the highlight is a walking track around the cove with magnificent views. Take bush walking foot wear and a bottle of water, don't forget your camera.
