The highlight to any visit to Wellington is a trip on Wellington Cable Car. In just 5 minutes you will reach the top of the Botanic Garden where panoramic views of the city and harbour are the reward. You can also visit the Space Place Observatory here. Before you head back down make sure to visit the Cable Car Museum (free entry), which provides a history of the city's symbolic mode of transport and see the original cars and winding machinery on display. There are walking tracks that start at the top of the Cable Car if you're keen on a stroll back to the city. The Cable Cars leave every 10 minutes.

We totally agree! The short trip up to the top of the Cable Car will save you the legs for the walk back down to the city. A visit to the Cable Car Museum and the historic Bolton Cemetery makes for a very interesting day...More

Wellington Cable Car was truly disappointing. It's not worth the money. It's much better if you take the time to go up the Botanic garden, Space Place, etc by foot.More

Kia Ora. Yes it’s only a 5 minute trip uphill but it’s all about experiencing a Wellington icon which for over 110 years has been serving the local community who know it’s a lot harder to walk than it looks. It'll definitely save you legs...More

Hi, thanks for visiting! We're glad to hear you managed to drive up Kelburn for some parking. It is a good reminder that there is no public parking at the lower terminal but there are several parking buildings nearby. It's also a good idea to...More

The cable car appears to have been totally refurbished. A perfectly way to get to the botanical gardens and then walk back down to Wellington.

Kia Ora and thanks for visiting! We have to agree the best seats are the ones by the driver's cab, however, the trip uphill takes only 5 minutes and you'll be at the lookout in no time at all. Both the indoor and outdoor lookouts...More

That's a really good idea! There's a supermarket right next to us before you board the Cable Car too so you can always buy some snacks and drinks and have a mini picnic at the Botanic Garden. Thanks for your lovely feedback.

As a NZ resident I was able to use my seniors gold card. You can take the car back down or walk, or even catch a bus at the top back to the city. It's certainly very cheap and well worth the trip to the top.

We had no queue travelling mid-morning on a week day. There was not cruise ship in town though, so perhaps this would change things.
