We ended up going there at least three days a week in the summer period, excellent swimming on the beach, good beach area to relax and play. Had a number of picnics on this beach.

A very nice drive along the beautiful harbor of Wellington. A great vista of the specular natural water way of historic Wellington.

Not my favorite place to hang out but a lovely little inner Harbour township. On a good day there's great views of the Heads of Wellington Harbour and the Harbour itself. Great walking location can get incredible windy particularly in the southerlies.

A great spot for a wander on a sunny Sunday morning. The views across to Wellington are fabulous, the path is easy, and the dogs are friendly.

Eastbourne is a pretty unspoilt village with shops, galleries and many good cafes. Parking is easy and you can wander along the quiet beach at leisure. There is a memorial to thise who lost their lives in the Wahine Ferry disaster, as many bodies washed up here. There is a kids' playground and a lovely village church, that we visited.... More

This is the best place to live in Wellington (if you can afford it of course). The neighborhood is so calm and quite that you feel like just sitting at the beach for hours, listening to the sound of nature. If you are staying at downtown Wellington, get a return ticket on the ferry (it's $22). Spend the time at... More

If you don't have a car - catch bus 83 or the ferry from down town Wellington to Days Bay (then a 15 minutes walk). There are better beaches in Wellington (e.g. Days Bay the next beach to the north) but Eastbourne is interesting. The Rona Wharf is good for a stroll. The village centre always interesting and allow time... More

Visited Eastbourne 3 times during our stay in the Wellington area, the first time was with friends on a lovely summers evening it was lovely sitting by the beach, we ordered take away food and had some beers. Our return visits were to the village, to the cute little cafe and shops.

Walking on the pier and have great view and overlooking Wellington and Somes Island. It is mostly pebbles with lots of driftwood. You can do a long walk or just a stroll.
