Great on a stereo-typical windy and rainy day if you can brave the dash across Civic Square. They have art displays that change frequently. Even though I wouldn't recognise all the displays as art there is usually something interesting there. Last but not least they have nice attendants. And a really good cafe. Oh and they have a very modern... More

I loved the exhibitions on when I went to this gallery! Especially the works by Francis Upritchard. Amazing and quirky.

I always visit the City Gallery when I am in Wellington. Always interesting, always stimulating. Saw the Francis Upritchard exhibition - arrived just as a tour of her work was about to start, which was very fortunate because the guide was interesting and informative, and incredibly enthusiastic.

I travel to Wellington at least once a year and check out the City Gallery every time. I have seen some incredible shows there of both National and international artists/collections. Memorable, extraordinary shows that have sat with me for years. I felt it was time to give them the big thumbs up on here. free admission usually.. the place is... More

When I compare this City Gallery with its equivalent in Auckland, this one wins hands down. Although smaller footprint, this gallery not only seems to display artworks more logically but its selection of work is more contextual for where it is.

Had a fabulous couple of hours in the museum, totally absorbed ourselves in all the exhibits, narrative and short movie. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Totally exceeded our expectations.Well Done!

The gallery is in a nice building, but the exhibits were rather sparse. It was a nice reprieve from the drizzling rain.

The city gallery is a lovely old building. Inside it has a number of different rooms and areas for exhibits. This particular visit we were checking out the bullet time exhibit. The exhibits change often enough to keep you coming back

Admittedly I didn't bother going upstairs after seeing the first two rooms. There were a few interesting large pieces of 'art' that really shouldn't merit being in an exhibition...the others were bland and looked easy for a regular Joe Bloggs to replicate over a few afternoons. It is embarrassing that decent art is not on show here - because this... More

The "artworks" on display at the time of our visit did nothing to inspire and some were extremely crude and with no artistic value in our opinion. In comparison, the nearby Academy of Fine Art was a refreshing change with some excellent works and a welcoming feel.
