Wellington zoo is a good day out, particularly if you have booked a few of the animal interactions. We did the red panda and meerkat encounters and both were fantastic! Really recommended! I enjoyed the chimpanzee and squirrel monkey exhibit as well. The enclosures are well done, but on the downside it is a smaller zoo, so there aren't many... More

Spent 3 weeks with my family touring NZ and saw almost all the zoos and Wellington was one of the best and was pretty close to some of the Australian Zoos. • Primate enclosures were excellent and the lay out was well though out. • the savannah enclosures were not as good as Oranas or Hamilton but that is understandable... this isn't a huge zoo, but it is great for kids because there is a range of animals which were easily seen. It is well set up and easy to walk around. We especially liked holding a weta (seems less scary at the zoo!) and patting a friendly emu. We spent a few hours here, there is a vet clinic... More

Expect a small zoo with good exhibits and you will not be disappointed. Wellington is not a huge city so dont expect a huge zoo. There is certainly enough displays to keep you occupied for a few hours. Best done of a nice day.

Its a compact zoo with many animals to see. The main attractions would be the bear, giraffe and the lions. The enclosures are large with the main attractions interacting for the visitors to see.

We went on a hot day so most of the animals were asleep or hiding under shade. We were lucky to be there during the chimpanzee feeding which was a good show. The zoo is built on the side of a hill so walking around the place is an exercise in itself so be prepared to get a good workout... More

We visited Welling Zoo on a lovely sunny day expecting to see all sorts of animals. How disappointed we were. We could not see any animals in most of the cages/compounds. There are lots of play things for the children, places for a picnic too. Educational information in and around. There is a cafe which offers hot and cold snacks.... More

Spent a fun couple of hours here on a lovely sunny day. The zoo is very hilly, which is not a problem for able-bodied people but if you have people with limited mobility with you it may be an issue. We based our visit around the feeding schedule and saw the tigers, sunbears, chimpanzees and giraffes being fed, along with... More

Living in New Zealand, I've been to Wellington Zoo a handful of times now, though the previous visit was probably close to 15 years ago. I have to say that it has improved greatly in that time. There are a great selection of animals that are homed in modern enclosures that cater for their needs. The interactive areas are interesting... More

a fun educational place to visit. The whole family ( group of 16 ) thoroughly enjoyed spending the day here. It's amazing to see the well kept and organised grounds. Plenty of room for the kids to just let loose and explore. Well done and keep up the good work
