Free, one-hour guided tours of Parliament operate every day on the hour....

Free, one-hour guided tours of Parliament operate every day on the hour. Take a tour with one of our trained guides to visit key parts of Parliament's buildings and learn about our parliamentary processes, and have an insight in to New Zealand's history and culture. Tours operate seven days a week with the first tour at 10am, last tour 4pm. We recommend you arrive least 15 minutes before the tour departs as tour group sizes are limited and so you have time to check in your belongings. Everyone must leave their bags, coats, phones, cameras and other electronic devices in secure storage at the Visitor Centre in the Beehive. Individuals do not need to book. Groups of 10 or more are required to book their tour in advance. Specialist tours are avaiable on request but must be booked in advance.

Well this tour was free and gave us an insight into where the political activities take place. We appreciated the inclusion of seeing how the building was quake proofed given Wellington is on the main NZ fault line.

A great way to learn about government in NZ. Also a sidebar on earthquake proofing the building was very interesting.

I have done the tour (runs each hour on the hour) a few times now and each time have been fascinbated by the history of Parliament. Guides are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Just to be in the debating chamber is a buzz, and entering the library is fascinating. History just oozes from the walls of the corridors! Just do it!

We did a tour that took up through part of the new and old buildings that go to make up the Parliament complex. The old building is fabulous, but for security reasons no photos were allowed. One of the most interesting parts of the tour was seeing how they have tried to 'earthquake proof' the buildings. It would be better... More

Defiantly worth the visit, lots of culture and understanding on Nz's heritage. Really nice building with the way its shaped like a beehive from the outside. Not many parliaments where u get such free access, you may even bump into the Minister of parliament

Did the guided tour in the afternoon and loved the insight into New Zealand's parliament and the history of the buildings. Well run, informative and just the right length of time.

We did the one hour tour of the Parliament buildings, was a great tour and a great insight. Ewen our guide was fantastic with lots and lots of knowledge a real professional. We toured on a Parliament non-sitting day, so you will see more than when Parliament is sitting. Great tour and would highly recommend.

The Parliament building comprise of three buildings. Entry to the building, through security, enables you to go on a hour tour of the three. It allows a sip-shot of the buildings to be seen and is long enough, for most, I would think

We took the free 1 hour overview of Parliament tour and found it interesting and informative. Our guide shared lots of useful information, including showing how a law goes from idea to implementation in New Zealand - very interesting and somewhat different process than in the USA. The rooms were interesting to see as well. Well worth the hour!!

We visited Wellington on a cruise stop in February. Even though it was a rainy day, we explored the city. The unique architecture of the Parliament Building ("Beehive") prompted us to go inside. We learned that free tours are given of the buildings and joined in. Our knowledgeable guide took us through many areas of the three buildings on the... More
