Cruise with Interislander from Wellington to Picton across the Cook Strait and through the stunning Marlborough Sounds in just over three hours on the three largest ferries in New Zealand. Interislander is one of The Great Journeys of New Zealand and our three ships each feature several outdoor viewing decks that allow you to soak up the gorgeous New Zealand scenery as it floats by. They also have plenty of lounges, cafes and bars to choose from, plenty to keep the kids entertained - including children's play areas - and plenty for mum and dad too. Cars, vans, caravans, campervans, motorhomes, motorcycles and coaches - all vehicles are welcome, just drive on, drive off. And for the rental car providers, just drop off your car at the rental depots within our terminals then pick up another at the other end - easy! Interislander has been sailing happy holiday-makers across the Cook Strait for over 50 years, so you know you are in good hands. And with up to eleven sailings per day, our timetable is bound to fit yours. Don't just cross the Strait, cruise it with Interislander and make your perfect holiday, perfect from the very start.

Used the ferry to cross from the South to North Island. Easy check in and bag drop. However shambles to get on board and even worse to get off as all foot passengers have to wait for the car occupants to get to their cars...More

This is one of the best "ferries" you'll ever go on. The views are tremendous and everything about the trip is easy - from car drop off/pick up to baggage and check in. I'd really recommend the upgrade to premier plus if you are travelling...More

Picton to Wellington and return 6 days later. Weather in Cook Strait being its normal horrid self with storms. As we are awful at sailing, changed our bookings with minimal problems a slight charge one way, and return was superbly handled by Henry as I...More

Tranquil beautiful comfortable crossing. Plenty of room to move around, excellent photo opportunities. Traveling with camper makes it expensive, but worth it.

My son booked this for us, to spend a few days on South Island. We were in the premium lounge on deck 5. The food and drink were very good. The staff were very attentive and polite on both crossings.

The facilities on board are great and there is lots of room to move about during the journey. There were lots of spare seats when we travelled.

Here you get wine, beer, ginger beer and a good meal - it is included in the lounge access and the service is nice and friendly. You can sit a group of 4-5 people together and have a good time during the 3-hour ferry tour.

Interislander was great with few exceptions. After booking both rental car and passage for the car and we humans, we were told that the rental car company does not let the car go on the ferry. They take your car in Wellington and give you...More

Hi Linda, All you need is your booking number, it starts with a 3. On a phone or tablet is perfect, and you'll just have to read out that number to one of our check in staff. Environmentally friendly is the way to go! Best... More

Hi Phil, A school backpack sized bag is fine to be taken onboard. A bag the size of a backpackers pack is too large, and will need to be checked in. Like Elizabeth said earlier, very similar to airline requirements. Best... More
