Half Day Martinborough Winery Tour from Wellington

86 reviews
An hour or so north of Wellington, Martinborough is fast making a name for itself as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading wine regions. Each weekend, Wellingtonians make the trek over the Remutakas to escape to this European-style wine village. This small group tour is a convenient way to visit Martinborough. There’s no need to stress about driving on country backroads, and no need to plan the day’s itinerary - leaving you to focus on the wine and the iconic scenery.

This museum is free and a bit tricky to find as you need to enter a building on The Terrace, walk through then follow the sign. It’s self-guided, there are headphones near the entrance. You can see an old cell, weapons made by prisoners, old and current uniforms, but also learn about the reinsertion programme which is quite impressive. There is a short movie explaining what happens once someone is arrested by the police. Interesting museum to visit if you have some time.

Small little spot hidden of the beaten track. Free entry. Some nice and informative information to read. Big cell where they stay.... like the old equipment.

This is hard to find on The Terrace but worth it. There is often an ex-prison guard in the museum to tell stories of the way things used to be. The old jail cell from New Plymouth prison is very cool. Hard to believe that it was being used only a few years ago.
