The evening glow worm tour was amazing! Our guides were very nice and informative, and seeing the glow worms from the kayaks was a unique experience. The worms and the lake were so beautiful! Definitely would recommend.

12 Days in New Zealand (12 Replies)
Hi - I have 12 days in New Zealand with my 19 year old son mid January. We want an active trip - we love hiking, biking and kayaking and he probably wouldn't mind a bungee jump. I have mapped out an itinerary but I think we are probably trying to do too much in the time we have. We fly in and out of Wellington. We love trains and would like to include the TransAlpine Train if possible. Here is my list - help! What is must see/must do and, most important, can do in the time we have? Should...More

Welcome to the forum! You won't be able to cover all of these places so something(s) will have to be cut. One problem you've got is that you fly into and out of Wellington, what date/time do you fly in and out?

Tauranga? Or extra time in Rotorua? (12 Replies)
I am finalizing a 14 day NI itinerary for two adults and one child in February 2015. Dawn of Day 6 we will be in Thames, having just finished our tour of the Coromondel Peninsula. We will check out of hotel and head to Matamata to spend the day at Hobbiton. From there, I had planned to go on to Tauranga for one night. The next day, Day 7, we would hike Mt. Manganui, go to the Waimarino Adventure Park, and then head to Rotorua for lodging. Day 8 would be spent in Rotorua, then on Day 9 go...More

You have a lot of zig-zagging planned. I think I would skip Tauranga. There are lots of hot ppols in Rotorua for your daughter (maybe your accommodation will have a pool). Two night stays always give you a break from early starts, packing etc & even time for laundry!

Hi angie, After a long-haul flight, it's not recommended that you drive a rental car on your first day in NZ. Get a shuttle service, taxi or take the Skybus to your accommodation. The Saturday Parnell farmers market closes at midday. You may not be ready to transfer to the city before 10:30am. Saturday traffic is much lighter than weekdays, allowing a clearer run to the CBD of 40 - 45 minutes journey. Rather than chase deadlines for the market followed by the ferry to Rangitoto,...More
