A wonderful opportunity to take a boat ride on Taupo lake and also to reflect on the amount of effort was required to achieve this wonderful tribute to Ngatoroirangi - Maori High Priest

Very much modern art in the style of Māori heritage. No historical significance and some of the carvings can hardly be seen

It speaks volumes that having holidayed in Taupo for the past 15years, one of our sons asked this year to go back to these carvings because they were the most memorable of all the attractions we have visited. They are modern works of art and...More

These 1970 rock engravings are certainly a wonderful feat of craftsmanship and ingenuity. Best seen from the water they are large and worth the visit. On a beautiful morning we hired a kayak ($100) and kayaked around to them from Acacia Bay. We chose the...More

Great story about nanna demanding grandson do something with his life that would be remembered-and they will. The main carving took around 4 summers to mcomplete, and I love the fact it will be here for many years (centuries?) to come.

The carvings are actually almost atb the top of the lake, but it takes a two hour boat trip, which illustrates just how vast Taupo is. Thoroughy recommended,

Some people are disappointed that these aren't ancient rock carvings, but they are still a feat of skill and craftsmanship to me. We enjoyed a beautiful cruise to get to them and would do it again!

We came out on the scenic tour with Chris Jolly and it was great to go in a cat for a change. The carvings are lovely and don't forget the ones in the left.

You can pay for a cruise on the lake or you can paddle out there in a kayak. It's about 45 minutes by the cruise boat so if you Kayak leaves a whole day.

we have been to there at10am and the weather was heavy rainy, but we still enjoy the trip, also we see the special rainbow on board. I can imagine the sunny day will be beautiful especially for a amazing sunset.

We booked online via Sail Barnaby, cheapest among the ones we saw. Plus, they have online promos so we got additional discounts. Always better to book online rather than take a chance that there will be available slots. :D
