Since the Taranaki Regional Council took over the upkeep and funding of Pukeiti it has become a major attraction with sealed walkways and viewing platforms. The rhododendrons and azaleas are probably the best collection in the world. The cafe isalso well worth a visit.

The long trip to this so called icon of Taranaki to show my overseas visitors we were met with a view of a man made jungle of fabricated steel which has detracted from the natural beauty of this great reserve now ruined by thoughtless professional...More

it is lovely to see the improvements which have been make to the Pukeiti Park since my last visit. The high-level walkways make viewing less crowded and easier. I recommend a winter visit to get an idea of the size of the gardens. The rhododendrons...More

Thank you very much for your excellent review. Another attraction at Pukeiti in the winter is the big leaf rhododendrons which start flowering in late July. Take the Valley of the Giants Walk to see them. They are stunning and get missed by most visitors...More

Thanks for your review. Really glad to hear how much you enjoyed Pukeiti. Just a reminder that the café is closed for the winter at the moment. The large-leaved rhododendron flowers will be starting to open in late July and they're really worth seeing if...More

A lovely drive out into the country from New Plymouth with pleasant views of Mt Egmont, Taranaki along the way . A cup of coffee on arrival sets you up for a really great experience through well cared for Gardens along well maintained tracks.

We went back to the Pukeiti gardens after 6 years, it was beautiful, tidy and interesting, the coffee shop is very nice, they have a good selection of food and drinks.

This garden is out of town about 25 or 30 minutes. At the time of the year we went many of the rhododendrons were not blooming. Still, the walks were still very nice and there were some other blooming plants.More

Thanks for your feedback. The rhododendrons mainly flower from July to December with the main season being October and November so you're quite right, there aren't many to see in March. It's a good time to enjoy a variety of other flowers and the beauty...More

The tree top walk from the cafe was great. The paths around the grounds are well kept. Although there were signposts for the various named tracks, it would have been helpful to also have some "Exit" or "Cafe" signs. It was a hot day when...More

Thanks very much for your review. You're quite right, although rhododendrons are the main type of plant we focus on, you don't have to have any interest in them to enjoy Pukeiti. However if you come in the spring you'll appreciate why people love them...More
