Nice natural hot pool
Jan 2021 • Family
Nice natural hot pool with an easy quick walk to the stream from the car park. The area is filthy though!! Rubbish, used diapers, toilet paper and likely human waste. Toilets at car park are disgustingly unusable.

Peace and quiet

It’s been a little while since I have been here and it was wonderful to come back and visit again. However saying that, it is now a bit crowded and in some places a lot of rubbish lying around, it was a bit disappointing. Good to see that there is a toilet here now even if it is the good old Kiwi long drop.

Terrible experience
Dec 2020 • Family
We visited Kerosene Creek 5 years ago and it was amazing. This time around I was shocked to see how much litter there was all over. The track from the car park to the river was littered with baby nappies, human faeces and toilet paper. At the waterfall area there was an old dumped couch with lots of beer bottles and can everywhere.
It just felt dirty and was a let down.

Crime hotspot
Nov 2020 • Friends
Be careful as we had our car broken into and all our clothing stolen. Were careful not to leave anything in sight and we took our valuables so all they were able to steal was clothes. They target tourists and groups of women so be weary! According to some locals and the police this area is well known for criminal activity.

Unique experience
Aug 2020 • Friends
This is such a treasure!
It’s a unique & free experience of a hot water pool created by nature.

Pros
- environment is relatively untouched
- worth the adventure to get there
- it’s free!
- beautiful scenery

Watch outs
- Only accessible via a Very rough unsealed road
- Track to creek is not maintained
- Track is not mobility-friendly
- No facilities (so go prepared & take ALL your rubbish with you when you leave)
- Could get busy, so suggest visiting in the early part of the day
(we visited early morning in the winter & had it all to ourselves. When we left late-morning, 2 family groups plus others were arriving)

Needs a clean up
Jul 2020
Have been going for years - but gutted to see the filth and rubbish left by visitors in this pristine place. The recently installed toilet/changing room was filthy with sanitary products lying around. It stank so badly it was unusable. Please don't leave your rubbish, clothes, socks, slippers and old towels behind - leave our natural environments clean- consider others.

Definitely off the beaten track - Roads are rough. Amazing spot. Can get super busy. And the water will be a lot cooler if it's been raining - We found out the hard way!

Great spot, off the beaten track. But not really as everyone and the world seemed to be there today!

Top tip -
If you have a nice car, with nice alloys - do not come down the track!! It is an unmetaled road, very rough and lots of pot holes

If you catch the sign saying Kerosene Creek on the main road just outside Rotorua, you might think there is nothing at the end. It is a rather bumpy gravel or oiled road that makes you wonder if it is worth the effort. Well it is. Eventually you will get to the parking lot, and when you get out there’s nothing to see. A small path by the sign takes you into the trees an you will hear water running. Just a little get there on you will come to the creek. I was very surprised, the creek is flowing with a lot of water and it is hot. A little way down street is a very small waterfall where you can paddle and feel the warmth. It fascinated me seeing the whole creek being so hot in places that it was unbearable. Go check it out for yourself and have a paddle.
