Don't miss a chance to see the 360 degree views! absolutely stunning on a clear day! The team at Volcanic Air are knowledgeable and friendly. A must do for the region.

take the shuttle to get to a high level. won't need walk too long. the wind was so strong in the summit so we didn't get a chance to reach the summit. and a bit hard to stand still with the wind, quite fun in a way. walking into the crater to see the different rock layers, plants and how... More

We went up that hill it was a realy long and exausting walk, and you should be in good condition but the few is nice

This is a magnificent chunk of raw New Zealand history. The Mountain that blew its top! Also walk around the lake - beautiful and peaceful - now. and take in the Buried Village.

What an amazing place. If I think of the word Paradise, I think of Lake Tarwera. the history of the place is amazing too

Not sure how to rate a mountain. The highest in North Island providing the best skiing but we were there in summer. Very impressive to look at. Great orographic clouds. Hire a bike from Ohakune. They will drive you up to the car park at the ski area. You then have a 20k all downhill ride back to town.

We took the trip with Kaitiaki Adventures who picked us up from our hotel in Rotorua. We were taken almost to the edge of the crater of Mt Tarawera in a 4 wheel drive vehicle with a competent driver. We paddled our kayak from the Landing to Hot water beach. Took just over 2 hours. Hot water beach has a campsite and the beach has hot water bubbling up, so the water is warm and, in places, very hot (be careful).
