I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful this lake is. The weather was amazing which helps of course but no matter where we went while visiting Rotorua this lake seemed to be a central focus that caught your eye. It was very peaceful and serene walking along the foreshore. The tourist water activities were quite quiet at this time of the... More

You can see boiling lake and also smell sulphur from the ground. Take a walk in the morning is recommended.

It really is a beautiful lake and has some great day walks, even going through some thermal areas. Loads of parks and picnic spots along the shore.

Beautiful walk around the lake with many breathtaking spots along the way. Must do on your visit to Rotorua. Doesn't cost anything but for sure will make you remember it.

wonderful tracks round sulpgur point heading out towards the airport - You don't need to spend any money going to the usual tourist traps to see thermal acivity - Just take a round walk following the trails towards the airport from the city its about a 5 km round trip walk

Did a big walk around the edge of the lake and it was really lovely. You get the see all the steam vents and bubbling mud along the way as well, plus all the birdlife. Good walking track, well maintained.

We spent the sunset by the Rotorua lake. The scenery was awesome though the temperature was quite low (at 1C). Highly recommend to spend some time by the lake.

The walk around Lake Rotorua is amazing. Not only is it free but you get to take in the unique birds, flora and fauna at the lake. Parts of the lake have geothermal activity, very unique. Highly recommended

There is just so much to do at this lake. My favourite activity is people watching as there are always tourists (and locals) here. It is always busy, even in the middle of winter with a storm rolling in (as you will see in my photos). Take a stroll and have your camera ready for some great shots. Watch out... More

Taking a walk around Lake Rotorua is amazing and this one is pretty underrated. I didn't think it would be so great but actually its amazing. It is close to major hotels and the eat street near the lake is awesome to grab so bite as well.
