Ferry ride through Bay of Islands

Beautiful and breathtaking! Lots of dolphins! The staff were wonderful and very informative. Stopped at one of the Islands for a hike, then stayed in Russell for lunch.

The harbour is charming and filled with little shops, restaurants, and beautiful park areas. There are touristy places and more local types of places. There is a small grocery store for necessities.

Paihia harbour is on the middle of town. Busy place, because that's where most tours by boat start. Lovely views on Bay of Islands. If sunny; stretch out on the beach. Swim, love the sun and do not get burned.

Fantastic boat trip to the Hole in the Rock. Make sure you do the morning trip as afternoons can Be too rough for the boat to get through the hole. Watching the swimmers swimming with the Dolphins was just magic.

The harbour is right there along side the main street of Paihia. There is a largish wharf with lots of tourist boats coming and going. The Bay of Islands is very large and the harbour is really a small access point for a very beautiful area. The beaches are good for swimming. Out on the Bay one can often see... More

We went on a fishing charter so we saw a lot of the area which is very nice. The ferry to Russell is pretty quick if you want to view where things started for the Europeans in NZ. The info center at the harbour is a good place to sign up for trips and excursions.

Paihia harbour is an amazing place, the hub of Paihia. Every morning we walked the couple of minutes from our accommodation to the harbour, sat down with a coffee and watched as the locals began their day organising the tourist boats etc. In the evening we loved wandering the area and visiting the eating places there,.

The three day cruise around the Bay Islands in Captain John's yacht, Manawanui was the best three days of our New Zealand holiday. The yacht is beautiful, the food cooked by John was awesome. Fantastic experience seeing dolphins up close, snorkelling the crystal clear water (although on the cool side!), kayaking and walking to great view points. John and Marcus... More
