I spent a lot of time looking for a "cruise" of the bay of islands and read a lot of reviews. This one came out the best and I can see why! We all had the most amazing day and it was the perfect end to our road trip around the northland. The whole team were friendly and inviting, chatty and made us all feel at ease. I felt safe and at ease the whole time even with my young children on board (4 & 7). We got to try swimming in the sea and snorkelling, kayaking, went on an uninhabited island, saw a sting ray, fished, ate a fish that was caught, cracked open sea urchin and tried it, played games together and ate a yummy lunch. Tea, coffee and water available at all times, other drinks really well priced. Overall we just had a really great family time together and enjoyed new experiences. We can't wait to come back and do the overnight cruise!! Thanks Captain and team :-)

The Rock Adventure Cruise is a must do for those travelling to the Bay of Islands.
The overnight cruise means you get to experience sunrise and sunset on the water, delicious food and incredible scenery. The crew were so welcoming and keen to show off their beautiful corner of the world.
With so many activities available it’s impossible to be bored but there’s time to relax if you want to.

We had a wonderful overnight trip on the Rock and would recommend this trip to anyone. We have a 14yr old and 17yr old who were fully engaged as soon as we got on board. We kayaked in the phosphorescene, explored beautiful beaches and snorkelled and caught Kina as well as fishing off the boat. All of the staff were extremeyl welcoming and kept us entertained and nothing was a problem. We had one other family onboard with us and we all got on really well. We felt extremely well looked after as safety came first with all the activities. We would love to do this again for a couple more days next time.

As soon as we docked after 26 fun hours on The Rock, my usually screen-addicted 13 year old declared "I wish we'd had a whole extra day". Unanimously voted the best part of our ten day long roadtrip. We had a fabulous time - thanks Jonny, Erin and Tyran. Night-time kayaking with bioluminescence, excellent food, comfortable quarters, swimming, fishing, paddle boarding, snorkelling, what more could you ask for? Even better than we had hoped.

OMG, what a fantastic experience! My boys (10 & 12) loved it!
Spectacular views, beautiful weather, incredible fishing, mini adventures on the islands, snorkelling, kayaking (AT NIGHT), and the food.... From ocean to plate sashimi 🍣, lovely roast dinner.... there was something for everyone even, some me time on the top deck... Just to breathe and take it all in.
Thank you Johnny, Sarah, Brie, Dan and CREW for hosting us.. You guys "ROCK". (pun intended)

Our family had the best time, snorkelling, kayaking and fishing were just some of the highlights! Definitely recommend if your looking for something a little different and more adventurous. The staff were absolutely amazing. We can’t wait to come back

We absolutely love The Rock, and so do our 2 children! It never disappoints from the staff, facilities, activities and delicious food served. Can't highly recommend enough, if your on the fence about this cruise I guarantee you will have the best time ever... so jump in!

I highly recommend The Rock Adventure Cruise.
We went on the day cruise and had an absolute blast. The staff are friendly and helpful which contributed to the great vibe on the boat.
The only regret we had was not having booked the overnight cruise, but we will most definitely be back for that one.

The Rock Adventure Cruise was our favourite day in the Bay of Islands. The team was so knowledgeable and will make sure you have a great time! It is an action packed day full of snorkelling, swimming and chilling on the boat. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Trip and staff fantastic would thoroughly recommend it. We’ll set up and we’ll run. The food was great, and normally when you go on trips like this extortion is the case at the bar. Not the case with this trip. Just excellent all round service.

Motukokako Island is referred to as ’The Hole in the Rock’ by some - we do not visit it. The Rock Adventure Cruise is an activity based cruise, check out our website for more info.

Hi Surienne, i hope one of my colleagues already answered your question but if not - it is perfect, we regularly have families aboard with all ages, our daughter has been joining the cruises since a few months old, but since turning 4 has really got into all the activities. I have a brother who is traveling with my son and myself. He needs a small amount of AC power at night to run a medical device (very low power and no concern about 117 or 220 and occasional drop outs). Is there a sleeping place we could book to have that ability?
Do you supply fins, masks, and snorkels for the swimming?

How suitable is it for a 75-year-old couple, reasonably mobile? Can you tell us more about the bedding? Bathrooms?

Hi John,
There are two staircases on the boat, of which one is of the standard type. If you book the double cabin you will ensure access via this one or email us and ask for Jonny. . The cabins are small compared to houses but large if you are used to boats (the double beds are standard size). Reasonably mobile is fine, the toilets are on the lower floor but lighting for the stairway at night and the toilets has been upgraded in the last month. You will get your feet wet but as the others have commented (thank you all) the team are helpful and everything can be done at your own pace. Hope this helps,

Hello - I have got to say, the reviews of this trip sound amazing! I'm travelling to NZ in January 2016 with my 16 yo son. He's a bit reserved when he is around people he doesn't know ... so I'm wondering if you think the overnight cruise on the Rock would be okay. Are there normally teenagers on board? Thanks so much!!

From my trip on it early this year, if there had been fireworks, I'm certain we'd be able to have seen them due to there being heaps of islands and being able to see some lights from various settlements.
