About
Sailing is a great way to explore the Bay of Islands. Join us for an Island Hopper Day Cruise, enjoy a 2hr island stopover with snorkeling, paddle boarding, bush walks, beach picnics . Or take a Sundowner Evening Cruise (Dec-March) for an evening sail in the inner area of the Bay of Islands, take a refreshing dip, enjoy the scenery as the day is coming to an end. Our boat, Kopiko, is a modern 33ft catamaran, the boat sits flat while sailing (no leaning over) which offers a comfortable sailing experience for everyone! With bean bags for lounging, or cushioned bench seating for relaxing. Have a go at sailing, or simply kick back, and relax, enjoy a day in the Bay of Islands with the Barefoot Crew. Max 16 passengers.

Luke and Amy were excellent and knowledgeable hosts who took time to interact with the guests and give them the best experience. Luke was very communicative, explaining the conservation efforts taking place and generally introducing the Bay of Islands. The Bay is a great place to sail and this trip was so much better than sitting on a motor boat racing out to the Hole in the Rock and back.

We booked this sailing tour on the last day of our holiday in NZ. It was a fairly late change of plan as we had originally intended driving up to ninety mile beach, but decided we didn’t want to spend our last day just driving. What a great decision it turned out to be. The weather was superb with fairly gentle winds in the morning, picking up speed in the afternoon for a bit more exhilarating sailing. Luke was on his own skippering the catamaran and playing host, as Rachel was on a course, and he did a superb job of both. Once we had boarded the boat from Paihia beach and had the safety briefing we all relaxed on bean bags for our sail to Moturua Island. We landed at a beach on the island where we spent the next 2 hours walking, swimming, snorkelling or paddle boarding depending on our preference. There was a great packed lunch and to top it all a cold beer for those who wanted it on the way back. A few of us had a go at steering the boat and doing some jibing. Top tip - if you’re happy to get a bit wet to cool off, sit at the front of the boat! I would highly recommend this sailing tour

If you are a water baby this is heaven. Lovely boat, great lunch and a fun but professional crew that make this excursion to the islands a very personalised day away from tourist crowds. Relaxing sailing and plenty of time to be active hiking, swimming, snorkeling or paddle boarding. Our favourite adventure in the whole Northland area . And they help protect the native bird population on the islands so they not only donate their own time and efforts to hands on work, they also give part of your fee to the Project Island Song organisation!

That was a great alternative compared to ferries and boat activities. The sailing is very smooth (no engine noise if the wind is blowing) and feels private (only 10-12 people max). It's a chance to appreciate the view, relax and still get to do some activities when arriving in the island (snorkeling, standup paddle). I would totally recommend!

We joined the Island Hopper adventure with Barefoot Sailing and had a wonderful time. We had great weather, but the thing that made it special were the excellent crew and the informative and helpful folks at the office. I was especially grateful to Rachel, because I had advised her that I get a bit seasick in rough weather, and asked her which day would be best to go (we had two days available). Initially she advised to go on Sunday, but then rang early that morning to let us know the weather had come up rougher than expected, and enabled us to change the booking to Monday when the weather was calmer. I appreciated that she wanted us to have a good experience. The lunch was tasty, the boat comfortable, the crew were really helpful and informative and friendly, and the cruise, swim and hike were really enjoyable. The numbers were also small which made it feel more friendly. I would highly recommend this tour.

Went on the Island hopper tour with a friend. Lukas & Rachel were our guides, both very lovely, warm, professional, genuine, welcoming, funny people.

On the way out we were lucky to see 3 Penguins! The ship slowed down enough so we could see them and not disturb them.

I did Snorkelling, got some great tips and saw some amazing fish. I got a little cold (my fault, stayed out too long), and Rachel was really helpful in providing me with blankets etc to warm me up. What a sweetheart!

I was a little disappointed a Vegan lunch couldn't be provided. I was given a veggie one instead, which could have easily been adapted to vegan. I was informed they were pre-provided, so it might be good to talk with the providers or go with a different one. It'd also be nice to have one more hour on the island, although I appreciate that may not be possible due to sailing stuff I have no idea about.

I did paddleboarding too, first time on the sea! I was provided with encouragement & tips. Really cool.

A highlight of my holiday so far! I highly recommend this tour. It's beautiful, fun and you're very well looked after. Thanks so much! 😁

This was truly the perfect day out. 2 hours of sailing, 2 hours chilling on an idyllic island, snorkelling, paddle boarding, sunbathing, then 2 hours sailing back! Luke was the ideal kiwi tour guide - relaxed, great conversation with lots of local knowledge to share without being fake or over the top. Well worth the money.

Chris and Amy took us to the beautiful Motorua island.
They got as much sailing in as possible and would offer the guests to help with the sailing!
The island itself was beautiful and there was plenty of time to walk, snorkel, paddle board and eat lunch.
Lunch was very tasty and enough for the journey. Hot drinks provided on the way to and back from the island.
Highly recommended

Fabulous day trip. Beautiful scenery, superb Crew so we were Well looked after. They weather didn’t play ball but even the rain couldn’t dampen how good this trip was - went for a snorkel and a little walk on a remote (ish) island - would recommend this trip
