I had never before seen a Spoonbill until I did this short and enjoyable estuary walk. I thought Spoonbills were an overseas only bird and they really do look like a cartoon-like bird. Easy flat walk so ideal for children and those unable to handle uphill walking anymore. Mangrove and grassy scenery close to the Napier airport.

The estuary loop takes approximately an hour all the way around. It's a lovely place and an easy walk full of variety. You will traverse boardwalks over the wetlands, gravel tracks, and the historic bridge on Embankment Road. Built in 1917, but now defunct, this road/rail bridge is used by the walkers and cyclists on this track. The bridge had... More

This is a very picturesque walking track - it can also be used for those wanting to ride although it can be quite narrow in places. People can take a picnic lunch and sit under a tree, by the water. it is lovely and sheltered in parts and exposed in others. it is a safe walk and popular with families.... More

We spent 2 weeks in Napier in a house swap and did this walk twice, firstly anti clock and then clock wise with friends. Each time the weather was perfect and we took in the bird life and great views. Apparently over 70 species of bird, both resident and migratory, use the estuary for rest and feeding. We saw oyster... I do this walk regularly and never tire of it. I prefer to walk anti-clockwise. Seems strange but I believe you see more. I love the bird life and especially the variations of the walk depending on the tides. It is never the same.

We lived in the waterfront apartments for a few years so regularly did this walk. It is so peaceful, and the bird life is amazing. Very easy walk. Love it
