An amazing zoo - a real surprise.

This has to be one of the best zoos in New Zealand for its layout and range of animals. It's very family friendly - a great day out.

I needed to kill a few hours and visited Hamilton Zoo; it was well set out and the enclosures were clean and well set out. There was plenty of shade for a hot day and there animals were all out and about.

It was a great family day out with ages ranging from 6 to 69. It was hot and many of the animals in hiding or a sleep don`t blame them so plan well.

My favourite animals at this zoo are scarlet macaw parrots plus blue and yellow parrots however the rhinos are really smelly and I did not get to see American bison in savannah area- very sad!

Will revisit. Good sized zoo. Animals appeared to be attended to. Apes looked a little sad though. Has good signage. Very pleasant staff.

A great day out for the family. Despite being an older Zoo, lovely natural enclosures, excellent interpretation material. An interesting mix of the usual and some unusual species too - Excellent Rhino exhibit! The Avery is especially fantastic, and quite something to see Bison so close up. Because its not packed all the time - is a very relaxing and... More

Excellent zoo for kids, we can get relatively close to the animals. Especially at the giraffe and the fantastic rhino enclosure. Take a tour if you can for the rhinos... lots to learn! Cafe is just ok - could do with a revamp. Take a push chair as it is a long way (and up hill) from the far end... More

The zoo is fantastic. A wonderful free flight sanctuary for birds, many of the major animal species and a great, friendly staff. What more could one ask for.

I had never been to the Zoo in Hamilton, so I took my young son and niece and Family. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, the animals, the beauty and up-keep of the premises was good. The whole vibe was relaxed as we meandered our way through beautiful NZ native flora and fauna and generally learnt more about the animals etc.... More
