Walk a little further west form the viaduct harbour area and you are rewarded with an area being transformed form industrial life to a lively area of parks, play areas, art work, market stall, restaurants and cafes and boats. Just stroll and see how the waterfront is being transformed and how central it is to social life now. Some great looking bars and eateries and fun food stalls.

This is a great place to wander and enjoy all the views. There's the beautiful harbor with many large boats. There's also MANY restaurants and places to get a drink. This is a perfect place for people watching. The area does get quite crowded at times.

Beautiful wharf with lots of nice bars and restaurants. Great for an evening walk to enjoy the sunset over a drink. Bring a camera with a good zoom.

It has good views of the Auckland Harbour and the boating activity but apart from that it has the usual restaurants and cafes and apartments etc. It is not that special.

North Wharf on the Auckland waterfront is a dramatically rejuvenated area, that was once a fishing dock. These days it is lined with restaurants and bars and a true attraction for locals and visitors alike.

We've had many enjoyable times there over the years in different establishments.

But this day we had a craving for oysters - not any old oyster but the "wild oysters" from Foveaux Strait between New Zealand's South Island and Stewart Island. For the benefit of visitors, they are a seasonal delicacy as dredging for them is strictly controlled. We think they are the best in the world!

So off to North Wharf it was. (Names of restaurants are not being mentioned on this occasion - it's really just a plea for them to be more customer focussed)

1st stop - Bluff oysters are available - and you can have them any way you like as long as it is natural. No way would this place them do tempura which was our preference.

2nd stop - Bluff oysters available - but again no willingness to do them in a tempura batter - even though tempura fish was on offer.

So we moved on to another dining precinct in another part of the waterfront .Maybe some of these restaurateurs need to be thinking about the customers want, rather than what they want themselves.

It is a nice place to wander around and relax. Lots of opportunities to take photographs. If you get hungry, there are several restaurants and bars to choose from. The whole area is well maintained.

Sit here to eat and get the energy from music and just people watching as they stroll around Aucklands vibrant marina area, this is a great way to unwind in an evening.
Many locations to eat from a full meal to just a gelato or ice cream cone.

The Wynyard Quarter is yet another fun Auckland recreational area - good for mooching about, looking at boats, drinking and dining and generally having a lovely time on high days and holidays. Not cheap - as with all these downtown areas in Auckland.

Check out the Auckland Fish Market while you're there. It's definitely worth visiting.
