- Gray's ReviewsTimaru, New Zealand1,411 contributionsSeems neglected and unkemptIt's a beautiful park, or was, but having not visited for over a decade, we've noticed that it seems a bit neglected and unkempt. Sure, there's been a shortage of rain which would account for very brown grass, but the lake seems dirtier than it used to be and there are weeds where there shouldn't be. The actual surrounds are beautiful though (hence the score), even the wildlife, but the overall feel this time was one of disappointment. Maybe the park's appearance will improve before our next visit...Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2020
- AcinetoAuckland Central, New Zealand20,073 contributionsLakeside WalkWe stopped by for a few afternoons to do a walk around the lake. There are quite a few places to park from the multiple entrances to the park. There is a big parking lot across the road on Great North Road. There are a few paths that all eventually go to the pathway around the lake. It is quite a nice walk around the lake, where you have to go over a few fish. There are plenty of animals to see in the area like the swans, ducks, koi and eels. Most of the paths are easy to walk along. There is a playground near the zoo end of the park which is new and quite large. There are also quite a lot of grassy areas to sit down on as well as seats and tables for picnics or rests. Spring is a nice time to walk since you see the baby birds all around the park.Visited October 2021Written October 19, 2021
- Happy Travels at Felicity 888Auckland, New Zealand55 contributionsFree Picnic SpotThis is a free picnic spot for everyone to enjoy and explore. The location has lovely sceneries aside from the lake with ducks, swans and eels. Fishing is not allowed here. The location is adjacent to Auckland Zoo.Visited December 2020Written March 2, 2021

Please beware this week and the next few weeks a large forested area is to be chopped down it could be dangerous for children as it will be for wild life ,if visiting the zoo next door be prepared for dark brown river water Auckland Council says it should clear up .I was there yesterday and huge trees were being chopped down .Sorry folks this is a real warning be careful of large trucks workers and trees being removed approximately 160-200

Located next to the horrible Auckland zoo, this park features a small lake, a lot of greens and too many birds to even count.
While the place is not particularly interesting, it's as far away from the noisy city as can be, and you are better off walking through the park instead of going to the nearby zoo.

Although we were tired from walking around the Zoo we decided to have a look at the Lakeside Park, was a lovely easy walk but a long walk about 30 min around the Park, lots of Swans and ducks to see. Right next to the Zoo.

This is a disgrace - whom ever looks after this park needs to take a serious look and give this area some TLC. Scrubs trees in desperate need of pulling out and replanting. I felt embarrassed taking an overseas visitor there.

It is a beautiful lakeside park with plenty of varies birds, swans, ducks, pukeko, you name it. Location is very good in the mid of Auckland with main road in front of the park, and Auckland Zoo, and Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) with tram line next to this park. A nice place for the whole family as a place for relax and picnic spot with good public transportation services. However, this park has too many swans and birds and the result is too many bird drops and swan drops scattered nearly everywhere, on the grass, on the walkways, make nearly impossible to set picnic mat on the the grass, and most likely visitor will step on the bird drops, yuck. And beside the drops, the grass surface made worse with too many swan feathers fall off everywhere. Come on Park Management, do something and make this park clean again and nice place for picnic spot.

I stayed close by and everyday I'd walk or run here. Nice place to sit or think, or to do some exercise. Plenty of birds including ducks, geese and swans! Pretty area.

This is a stunning park, great for weddings and events.
I think there could be another play area done and a cafe built onsite. Well kept grounds but needs another toilet block on motat side. And more seating for people who forget picnic rug 😊

Beware of burglars which is relatively common in this area. Park itself is nice though. Our car got broken into. Shame that such a nice park had to get 3 stars because of it

Nice walking track, it was clean and well maintained. Loved the greenery around. There are many fishes and eels in the lake, also there are many types of birds.
