We were two couples going together to this cooking class, had a blast and cooked and enjoyed some lovely food! Everyone at the academy was very lovely, the chef was fun and his instructions were easy to follow (plus you get the printed recipe) so don't need to remember :)
The put you on a small kitchen for 4 people so if you go with friends, let then know when you do the booking so that you can be together.
The only advice would be to bring a pen and update notes and some things are done in a slightly different way as what it says in the paper :)
We totally recommend the experience and we'll be there back soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the cooking school. We attended the special Fathers Day brunch which was aimed at families. Our group consisted of four grown up family members and this was perfect as the kitchen was set up for groups of four. I was amazed how easy the dishes were to prepare and how the various dishes worked well together. Helpful chef.

Had a wonderful time. Lovely chef, easy instructions, demonstration of meals then chance to practice in group of four and sit down dinner afterwards.

Great fun. Made new friends and wonderful tasty food. Looking forward to another course.

I found this class online and thought it would be an enjoyable way to spend an evening while we were visiting Auckland for a few days before a cruise. It was very informative and enjoyable ....you watch the chef demonstrate what you are going to do before you go and actually prepare your own meal to enjoy ... would do it again!

The class we took was Fins and Feathers!

We spontaneously decided to check if there are some cooking classes available and we were lucky. They had some places left for the Seafood tasting class. First hour is about "school lesson" in a real classroom, that was very cool! We were given some Paua (Abalone) and amazing prawns from the BBQ. Then the chef did the courses, that we had to cook on our own afterwards. We had mullet fillets and flounder on the schedule. After some tipps and tricks, we went to the kitchen room and got started. The kitchen set up is really good and after 45 mins all groups were ready for dinner. We had the chance to meet very interesting travellers and it was a fun night with great food and good conversations. I´m a big fan of cooking courses as this allows you to really taste the local kitchen and you always learn a lot. Auckland Seafood School is really a good address for a nice course.

We thought we'd give Auckland seafood a chance to show us some of their cooking secrets during our holiday to New Zealand. Instead of just enjoying a restaurant meal, why don't we take something back with us. The class was very interesting. Chef John was passionate about his preparations and presentation. His menu choices of preparing squid, abalone and varied fish dishes provided for an interesting evening. We will return to Louisiana with a few new dishes to prepare for our Cajun friends. Thanks Auckland seafood.

My 2nd time at the Auckland Seafood School and this time a tour was included of the fish market with some smoked Salmon tastings and a glimpse of Josh Emett and the Prime Minister. A look in the Big Picture Wine room and a brief stint in the Auction freezer was interesting. Chefs Stephen and Colin who looked after us were fantastic, very friendly jovial guys. Their class was informative and easy to follow with a glass of wine in hand included. Then it was our turn in the classroom where we tried our hand at Smashed pea Tortellini, seafood broth and created two great fish dishes. These were definitely something you could recreate at home. Then you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour at a shared dining. This was a Special Winter rate and excellent value for money. I think even worth paying the full $85 price tag. I will absolutely go back again for a further class. You really must go along and attend.

If school was this much fun I'd be back in a flash. Auckland Seafood School chefs really know how to entertain while they teach. The auditorium has great visibility and kitchen where you get to cook the delicious dishes that the chefs have taught are great, spotlessly clean and easy to navigate. The wine and conversation flows, the chefs are on hand with pointers and suggestions and at the end of the evening you dine at a long table with all your class mates.
This is great place for groups, mates and couples or anybody who has a genuine interest in cooking fresh fish properly. I've been fortune to attend several classes and every time I pick up some helpful hints on how to extend my kitchen repertoire and create a few fun memories as I do..

I was gifted a voucher to cook here as an anniversary gift and was really excited. Unfortunately the original theme class was cancelled but we rebooked with Ray McVinnie and it was awesome!

We arrived and were treated to a glass of wine (however I suggest you purchase a bottle for two so you can enjoy a glass whilst cooking and then whilst eating!) We then went into the theatre and watched Ray wow his way through the kitchen. He was very personable and really engaged with the audience there was lots of questions and we suggest you take a pen to write all the notes down. His recipes were easy but impressive!

After the learning we had been split into teams of 4 to share a workspace and cook 2 dishes. My partner doesn't cook but he absolutely loved it and was really involved! Ray continued to walk around the give advice and tips which was awesome. After we finished cooking the two dishes we sat down and enjoyed the food - of which there was plenty! The staff were great cleaning up etc and they even offered us take home boxes for the leftovers.

It was one of the best things we've done in Auckland in ages and I can't wait to go back! However I think it would be more fun to go as a 4 so you're not cooking with strangers but the strangers are like minded so even if you go as a couple you will love it!!

Ps: they do cater to dietary requirements!
