I will admit that our families love of Bethells/ Te Henga goes way back, be warned it is wild and the water can be deceiving, it's dangerous as with all the west coast beaches of Auckland. If you have spent an hour on your surfboard or swimming on the East coast you need lots more practice before considering the west... More

We initially went to this beach to go to the sand-dunes + Lake Wainamu, but what i didn't realise is that if you want to access these places you need to park closer to the little bridge just before you reach the Bethell's bridge carpark. If you're coming from Bethell's beach, apparently you need to stop just before the bridge... More

Dear Madam/Sir, RE: Bethells beach is one of the finest beaches around Auckland City. This place has some of the greatest tourist attraction points such as backwaters, caves and walking tracks. The sand is black like gold in colour and has a rare texture. The caves are an attraction here carved into Hills. Parking is available and bathroom and shower... More

I've been to beaches all over the world, and Bethells is one of the most memorable and special yet. The wet, black sand creates a huge mirror for the sky, and the beach seems to go on for miles. There are sand dunes, caves and mini beaches to explore too. The drive to the beach is wonderful too - you... More

This volcanic beach is the pearl of the West coast, not crowded like Piha or Muriwai and even more beautiful. Should be visited on a low tide to explore caves as well.

My favourite west Auckland beach because its much larger than Piha, and far less crowded. There's an awesome cave at the south end. Definitely worth a visit!

Its more than relaxing places and nice beach. Quite big, can play there, fix tent and spend whole day bit sand dunes started but not much, good beach to visit and need to do with Piha beach travel.

I've been to Bethells beach now three times, and want to continue to go back. The beach has scenic cliffs surrounding the quiet, kind of locals-only type beach that's great for any size group. The riptide is strong, so be careful in the water, but head up to the Te Henga walkway to enjoy a nice four-or-so hour walk along... More

Bethell's is a beautiful black sand beach in the Ranges. I recommend it for the views and especially sunrise and sunset photography. It's the perfect way to start and end your day.
