- SandLexiaAuckland Central, New Zealand121 contributionsSpectacular ViewsBest on a calm day as the site is exposed. The views towards Rangitoto and back to the city are just spectacular and the variety of routes you can take is great as paths circle the mount at various levels and intersect with each other. Now my favourite local walk.Visited June 2022Written July 3, 2022

We visited here on December 25 and saw how real New Zealanders celebrate Christmas. Bring out the barbecues, beach toys, and sparking wine! This is the right was to celebrates day connect with family members . Some brought entire feasts! It was amazing what emerged from coolers! Can’t beat these views!Visited December 2019Traveled with friendsWritten January 5, 2020
- Deb62HayHemel Hempstead, United Kingdom453 contributions3 day stayWe were fortunate enough to stay here for three days as part of our holiday. Great beach with plenty to see. Weekends see lots of activity on the beach. Lovely green spaces too. Hosting palates and fitness classes. Scooters available to hire to ride along the prom. Good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. You can also walk along the seafront to the next bay.Visited January 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 27, 2020

- k8houlihan32 contributionsBeautiful beach right beside the cityI took a Lime scooter along the waterfront trail to St Heilier's Bay and loved it. Easy to get there, lots of cute restaurants (I had breakfast), book shops, vintage/consignment, etc in the town and the beach itself was gorgeous with craggy cliffs, white sand and calm lapping waves. One of my favorite spots that felt like a real getaway inside the city.Visited May 2019Traveled soloWritten July 8, 2019

There's a nice playground for kids and a little 'rock pier' where you can walk out to the water for a gorgeous photo op with Rangitoto Island in the background. Take the drive up Cliff Road to Archilles Point if you're looking for views of Rangitoto and Browns Island. As a local I can promise there is a wide range of bars and eateries plus just enough boutique shoots to enjoy some retail therapy. Big sky, blue water, green cliffs, a pleasant, undemanding walk along the waterfront ... A beautiful place to visit. We visited on a sunny day, which shows off the area at its best. The steep walk down St Heliers Road is very attractive and offers great views. You can walk back up Long Drive (steep at the bay end, but levels out). There are shops to visit in St Heliers Bay (Post Shop, bookshops, baker's, coffee shops etc) and it's a lovely place to be. It's not overcrowded, not commercialised, not self-conscious - just quietly enjoyable.

St Heliers is about 20 mins from Auckland downtown and has a sort of village feel.
There is a nice selection of shops, including banks, post office etc. There are also some very nice places for breakfast or lunch. It is also situated right on the seafront, so really lovely to spend a day and relax. Free internet too in the local library.
Although it may take in excess of 90 minutes, you can walk along the seafront to the downtown area, or simply catch a bus!

HOw long does it take to walk to the bay from auckland CBD? Thanks

It is a lovely walk on a fine day, approximately 90-110 minutes, with many opportunities to photograph the coastline and other features. On the way a visit to Kelly Tarlton's Sea World would increase the time spent in the area, but would offer a day's visit in all! Alternatively, brunch or coffee at Mission Bay as an interlude would not go amiss. Enjoy!
