The tour by volunteers was well worth the $10 extra. Our guide talked and walked with us for three hours telling us the history and pointing out the birds. She was excellent with the kids and got to know us so she could tell us things we would find interesting. Definitely one of the best things to do in Auckland.

I went to Tirirtiri twice in 2 days. I found it to be a great place to walk, enjoy superb views and hunt for a good number of birds which are not present on the mainland. The boat over to the island is nice, and you get about 5 hours on the island to wither wander independently, which I did,... More

My husband and I took the ferry to Tiritiri Matangi Island and went on a guided tour with one of the volunteers. We unfortunately didn't see a lot of wildlife, but our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us great information about the few birds we did see and the myriad of trees and plants. A wonderful way to spend... More

beautiful island, lots of lush green forest, birds galore. We used a guide for the first half of the day, helped us massivly to identify and get to know all the different species.

This review comes in 2 parts; The first is for the island itself. The island was lovely to visit, we went on a rainy day which we would not recommend. The staff and volunteers obviously care about it a lot and put a lot of work into maintaining and preserving the park. There were a lot of tracks available to... More

Our day trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island was simple excellent, and a great way for us to ease into our month long NZ trip after a 10 hour flight. Well executed by Fullers 360, the company that ferries visitors to the island, as well as the Guides and Volunteers that have helped over the years to make the island a... More

When booking our trip to Tiritiri Matangi we paid an extra $10 for a guided walk and were not disappointed. We opted for the longer of the 2 walks and was led around in a small group of 6 by Gill, who was fantastic! She knew so much about the island and made the day really enjoyable. We spotted loads... Be sure to book online to get a seat. Wheelchair accessible on the boat and on the island, but not for all of the tracks. You can catch the ferry from Auckland ($70) or from Gulf Harbour ($55). You can also book guided tours. Take your own lunch and some drinks, and be sure to bring all your rubbish back... More

It's great to experience the birdlife on this predator free island. It's not an arduous walk around for the moderately fit, and you may choose the services of a volunteer guide. But unless facilities have changed since my visit, be sure to take your own food and drink.

We spent a full day on TiriTiri and wit was well worth it. We saw all kinds of birds, including blue penguins (on a rocky outcrop as well as in a nesting box). Our volunteer tour guide was a lovely British volunteer who was very enthusiastic.
