Tiritiri is a 5 star destination if you're a nature lover, particularly for birds and plant life. I have visited the island twice before by private vessel and recently had my first experience with the organised ferry cruise as I booked tickets for myself and my family from overseas. The ferry crossing itself is pleasant enough, a smooth ride on... More

I have lived in Auckland all my life and never been to Tiritirmatangi Island before. I decided this summer I was going to do it so a friend and I caught the 45 minute ferry trip from Whangaparoa. It was very pleasant. We were met by the Ranger who talked about the island then I had booked the guided tour.... More

This was a fascinating ferry ride to and from an island reconstituted as a bird sanctuary, with guided tours if you want (highly recommend as they are very knowledgeable). Tons to learn, plenty of walking exercise, and great trails in and out of the forest areas. Lots of fun!

Frendly and knowledgable guide showed us around the island. The range of native birds was stunning and their song was amazing. A bit of a long day but well worth it.

We stayed overnight in the old rangers cottage which was great - met some interesting people and bunk beds are fine. Explored out in the dark in the hope of seeing the kiwi, which we were very lucky to fleetingly view as they're very fast. Waking up to the dawn chorus was almost deafening but well worth it.

Highly recommend this trip to tourists or local kiwis' abundant bird life, very informative guides take you to where the birds nest, well worth the $5 to have a guide. Beautiful day, saw dolphins in the bay, lots of people jumped in to swim with them. Loved seeing the Tui feed from the bird feeder outside the shop, so many... More

I have been visiting this island for many years. I stay over a weekend and bring my grandchildren as well. They always enjoy the birds, the tracks and Hobbs Beach.

We spent 2 days here walking and sitting. Stayed in the hut which had everything we needed. The birdlife are amazing and the morning birdsong worth hearing. Would enjoy returning again. A nice thing to do as a couple or a small group
