I have been there last year when I came to study English, it was amazing for me. You have to walk carefully to the summit. You can see the great view overall Auckland. I spent time on the top with my friends, we walk around to take a photo. If you been there around 6pm, you will see the sunset and night city view around Auckland.

    DO NOT MISS THIS
This is a MUST DO while in Auckland. It isn't walkable from the Sky Tower area (my husband and I were going to but took an Uber instead). Our Uber driver said it would've been over 1 hour of hills one-way. Once you get to the top of this old crater, you have the BEST 360-view of Auckland. Even though it is windy, it is so darn peaceful. I could've stayed up there all day. It was fun to just observe the city, and different buildings and house, see the other craters throughout the city and happy dogs frolic with their owners. You will not regret this!

    Tallest summit in Auckland
In Australia, Mount Eden is known as one of the greatest pacing horses of all time. Seeing Mount Eden race was inspirational. Not until we arrived in New Zealand did we find that Mount Eden is the tallest natural point on the Auckland Isthmus. It's not actually a mountain, it's a dormant volcano. From the summit, you can look out over Auckland, which is a mere 4 kms (2 1/2 miles) away. It has an award-winning garden on the side but there's nothin much to do on top except take in the view.. It's a bit of a climb to the top, but you can drive most of the way.

The quick but rather steep walk (20min) up to the crater is 3/5 worth it. Does offer pretty views of auckland downtown and interesting look into a grassy crater. Should consider stopping by if in auckland but do not plan trips around it.

A nice hike up to the top, where the views are spectacular. It was a very windy day, so really bracing. They’re have closed some trails as they are building boardwalks, that will make the hike easier for more people. Had the best fruity ice cream on the way down.

Stunning views of the city and harbour. It's a nice walk up the summit road now that cars have been banned. Construction works starting Nov 2019 on the summit track will mean it's closed for about 8 months.
There's toilets about half-way up toward the summit if you follow the road on the eastern side. Otherwise the only toilets are at the road entrance to Mt Eden off Mt Eden Road, or at the playground on the northern side next to Normanby road.

Our Friends came in a cruise ship, we have only hours to get to show the best of Auckland.
We took them to Mt. Eden because it's a perfect sightseeing of Auckland. Sky City, Rangitoto, Cornwell Park, Edens Park and more standing in an inactive volcano covered in a very bright grass. Very Impressive.

Unfortunately, it was not a good weather day the only day we had to visit so the views were not like the pictures of others. On a good day it would be fantastic. It was still worth going as seeing the crater was interesting but if it is a bad day, try and rearrange your schedule to go on a better day. You could also not get to the topo the day we were there as it was fenced off with works being done (looks like they are going to make another boardwalk).

During my short visit to Auckland, my nieces brought me to this place which was accessible from the city. The drive up to Mt Eden was quite short and the viewing area on top of the mountain was not really that big. But this place would give you the best view of the city of Auckland. We were even surprised to see a rainbow when we were there.

Good place to see the sunrise or sunset. In the morning many people go for bike ride or run to the top of mount eden. If you want to get panaromic view of the Auckland city this is the place to go.

The climb from the parking area is not too long. There's a natural crater at the top which was interesting. The peak has a wide view of the city laid out underneath. If you haven't been to other mountain peaks with better views in New Zealand, this will be quite enjoyable. However, I wouldn't say it's a must see really.

Mount Eden is an extinct volcano. It is the highest point on the isthmus, overlooking Auckland; you get a spectacular view, it is only 4 kms south of Auckland's CBD. Pacing enthusiasts may recall a champion horse named Mount Eden.

We visited on a particularly hot day, took the bus then found it difficult to find the access road to the summit. There is a distinct lack of directional information.
However we did eventually find the route up to the summit and the views are indeed exceptional.
It would have been nice to have some more historical information before the climb.
Saying that once we managed to find the way up, a remarkable experience!
