Auckland is not the capital of New Zealand, but it is the country's most populous city. This museum is marvellous, you can easily spend half a day there. I was most interested in New Zealand history, which is well covered, especially Maori history. I was particularly impressed by the waka, one of the last remaining of the giant canoes with... More

A fantastic museum. Wide range of exhibits. Highlights were the Maori court, which goes into a lot of detail regarding the various branches of Polynesian culture and the natural history floor.

A must do when in Auckland, lovely park and ponds. Museum has regular feature exhibits, presently the superb Air New Zealand history and 3D . Very good cafe, lots of parking nearby or in parking building at rear.

Excellent place to learn about the Maori people, the history of New Zealand and history of relations between the Maori and the europeans, when they arrived. Besides that, there's an excellent Volcanos section, where you can learn about them and how various eruptions formed the territory that is today known as New Zealand.

We were expecting more of a war museum emphasis, and while it had this, and it was extremely well done, there was also much on Pacific island and NZ history. A highlight when we were there was the Air New Zealand history display where we experienced virtual reality headsets and loved the experience. The cafe on site is also very... More

Brought 8 mo baby to the museum, just walking around the surrounding was very nice. Off street car parking was good, free for few hours.

Quite simply, a must do when visiting Auckland. Informative, fun, emotional, inspiring. Adults, children and 'big kids', would all enjoy the experience. With both static displays and interactive areas, there's enough here to keep you occupied for a whole day.
