The highlight of our visit to the Auckland Museum was the Maori Cultural Performance!!! Gave us a great overview of the Maori culture. Enjoyed the dances and songs, too. Afterwards, the performers met with the audience to take photos.

An excellent museum, packed with fascinating items, artefacts, and culture. You need to allow at least one whole day if not two, to benefit from all this museum has to offer. Lots of interaction for kids and adults alike . Highly recommend

The museum is so big and very interesting place to study the history and culture of the local tribes and people. I would recommend to visit in the morning so that you have the whole day to go around. It will take your whole day!

The displays are extensive and generally well done. It is a war memorial and a whole floor is dedicated to the topic. We spent the most time there, and by this point in our trip I was war-red out. There are smaller galleries of fine art and Maori/Pacific Island artifacts. Those seem to have less prominence and much sparser explanatory... More

Thank you for your review. I am delighted to read that you were absorbed by the war memorial galleries on the top floor, but you have somewhat underestimated our coverage of other topics! The Museum's collections are encyclopaedic: we have natural science and human history collections that are among the best in the world. These are displayed and interpreted in... More

When I was a child growing up in Auckland we visited the museum on a regular basis and I loved the naturalized elephant (Raj) and the reconstruction of the Moa bird. For me, it is a fabulous place to go and lean all about the history of NZ. My french partner loved the section on the Maori. It was interesting... More

Set in parkland, this is a lovely museum to visit. Easy to walk round, plenty of interesting exhibits - particularly enjoyed seeing the cultural show. Nice cafe for lunch.

This museum gave you a lot of understanding of the Maori people. It also offered a lot of other exhibits of interest. It has a fantastic layout that made it easy to get around. Lovely to see it was full of all ages visiting.

Worth a visit situated in the middle in Aucklands green oasis High on a hill. I think one could easy spend a couple hours in the museum. Beautiful building with a nice view. The full name is Auckland War Memorial Museum even though it is not a really a war museum. Don't forget to visit the Winter Garden close to... More
