I've known this Museum since I was a child. It still fascinates. It still re-invents itself. Presiding over Auckland, the Auckland War Memorial Museum is one of the great museums of the world. While some of the classic displays, particularly in the Maori Hall, are very familiar to me, there are just three things I go to see whenever I... More

We spent three hours here which is amazing with two small children. The building is massive,we went early in the morning and it was quiet so we had plenty of time to wander around.Very interesting and relaxing. So much to take in.

If you like some history this is a must do. A good walk through the city but has a bus service. We used Uber there and walked back. The Maori content was fantastic, interactive and well displayed. Loved some of the video perspectives as well. It has a lot in the museum to see. We did the natural and War... More

Coming from Europe, the beautifully crafted objects of the Pacific people can look very exotic and uniquely mesmerizing. I haven't seen much of the art of this area in any other collection or museum outside of New Zealand. It's a must-visit if you want to be up close with the artifacts of the Pacific for the first time in your... More

Wonderful combination of historical events and cultural development. Good presentation of the Maori society, early European settlements of the country and military involvement in global wars.

Bringing an overseas family member to the museum - decided the Maori show was worth a go (had been there some years before with my daughter). It was a pleasant surprise - not at all hokey but warm and interactive and pleasant.

You cannot miss a visit to the Auckland museum while in Auckland. Getting there is quite simple, catch a Link bus (1.60 NZ$) and the driver will drop you off just in front of the museum. The entrance to the museum is free, but donations are welcome. The Maori area is very rich in Maori carvings, and also displays some... More

If you have spent time in the museums in Europe and New York, then you won't be overawed by this Museum. But you will want to see it because it holds exhibitions on Maori, early settlers and the two world wars. What I didn't like was being grilled at reception on 'where I came from'. I'm a New Zealander who... More

They have different shows at certain times. When we went it was based on NZ music. Good for all ages and very affordable.
