A great museum indeed. A lot of history about the native people and other things on top

As you can guess, New Zealand is a small country, so this is their main museum and they tried to fit everything there. Usually it's not a good thing, but they got it right. They have excellent materials about the history of the local people. This is really the best part. Highly recommended! As the name says, they have surprisingly... More

We came to New Zealand expecting to travel and see the beautiful countryside only to arrive to two days of constant rain. Museums were not top of our list for this trip but based on multiple suggestions we gave the museum a try. We were not disappointed. The museums 3 floors beautifully display and tell the stay of NZ's natural... More

Great Maori History... Beautiful carvings.. Stunning large artefacts.. Never seen anything like it.. Look for vouchers in visitors books to get a few bucks off entry

We are museum people, and found much to like here, but we were frankly overwhelmed and found that we were having to hunt for many labels on exhibits, etc.. We spent most of our time in the Maori section on the ground floor, flew through the first floor (though it deserved more time) and didn't even make it up to... More

The Auckland War Memorial casts lots of interesting history about New Zealand as a whole, from the maoris, to the recent wars the country was involved in. Well worth a visit

If you only have a day in Auckland, make sure to visit the Auckland Museum. Although you could probably spend at least a week there if you really sifted through all the history, culture and information it has to offer. There is so much to see and do but when I arrived fresh off the first hop on/hop off bright... More

This museum has a really nice collection of Maori cultural objects. I especially enjoyed talking with some of the artists in the Maori lodge which is being restored inside the museum. I was lucky to be there just before some groups of children descended. So plan your timing.

Awesome exhibits, however changing it up would be nice as it has been the exact same for years. Still an awesome place to have a wonder around.

This place is defs one of the must-go-to places when in Auckland. Huge museum it took us more than an hour to go around. Offers many interesting features from history, fashion, maori culture, world war etc. Entrance fee for Auckland residents is free, for NZ residents entrance is free but donation is welcomed. For non residents entrance is $25 for... More

Can't leave the town without visiting the Auckland museum! A lot of history about the town and its people , so interesting that you may spend half day in there and not even realizing it!!!
