I was really blown away by the wonderful collection of art. It is truly astounding and well worth a visit. However, second to how good the art was the gallery itself is an amazing mixture of historic building and new steel and glass. A redevelopment that is apparently many years old but is still astounding today. Best feature of the... More

I spent the best part of a day here, just walking around and looking at all of the exhibits - if you're interested in art then you definitely go here, and if you're not really fussed either way then you should definitely pay a visit. There was a room with some really interesting Maori paintings, and each one had a... More

Modern 2010s extension to the original building that with a wooden roof, acres of glass walls and exterior water features is a work of art in itself. Highlights of the exhibitions for us were: #1 - the Gottfried Landauer and Charles Frederick Goldie portraits of Maori chiefs #2 - the really-must-see 2016 Walter's Prize finalist Lisa Reihana’s stunning double-screen video.

The renovated art gallery is a city centre gem, for art buffs as well as the uninitiated. My personal favourites are the Goldie paintings, New Zealand classics. There are sculptures and interactive displays. The cafe is pretty good, as is the shop. Recommended.

The venie houses a wide collection of art and provides a comfortable space to view them only 1 block from the main street of Auckland. The information ob the exhibits was minimual so a guidebook or guided tour would make the visit more meaningful.

We spent a few hours here and we're treated to paintings of Maori royalty. Short films from art students were being shown-fun. Great views of Albert Park which is behind the gallery.

AKL Art Gallery regularly have free screenings of documentaries and art films. If you are a local, I would recommend subscribing to their events newsletters by email. A great place to visit and get inspired.

The Auckland Art Gallery has an impressive range of New Zealand Art, especially with the Maori Cheifs. The Gallery is well set out, with lots of different exhibitions going on at any given time. They always have interactive sections on the first floor for the children, which is really great. International art section is lacking though, however, that's probably for... More

The modern gallery is a beautiful building and I take my hat off to not only the architects and builders but also to the city fathers with the foresight and strength of will to ensure its existence. It sits in a lovely setting too. And the artworks are displayed in a way that makes it easy for ordinary folk (like... More
