A lovely (and free) museum. The absolute hit for us was the Maori Portrait exhibit which had two descendants of one of the portraits giving a talk and a number of videos on how the artists did the portraits - really interesting! As with any art museum there was art we really liked and art that didn't appeal to us.... More

My wife and I stopped by randomly while walking through Albert Park. The museum was free to enter, clean, modern, and had some interesting pieces on display. It makes for a nice stop while walking through the city, though make sure you pack lightly since they request that all backpacks be removed and/or held.

As veterans of museums the world over, I was surprised by this museum's confusing layout. That said, it's a beautiful building with views of Albert Park from some levels. Viewing the Lindauer exhibition was a unique opportunity, with background information clearly written by each painting. The supporting movie was interesting, though unless you're in the front row you can't read... More

I visited the gallery for the first time in years recently to see the Lindauer exhibition. This is now a great venue, and the redevelopment has vastly improved it. The exhibition itself is very powerful and emotive, and shouldn't be missed. They have also added a Mojo cafe, which does great food and coffee.

I visited the gallery for the first time in January with my family. It was a great way to fill in a few hours on a rainy day. Entry was free, but I had to pay $26 to park in a nearby parking building. The gallery itself is stunning in its design. The exhibits were well laid out with plenty... More

Wonderful exhibit of Maori Portraits by Gottfried Lindauer. Wonderful story of New Zealand history. Had lots of info. And we tried food from cafe - Mojo - simple but good

This is a free art museum so you can pick and choose what galleries to visit. Art is very subjective, so you may find galleries that are very interesting and other you might breeze by. Most of the exhibits focus on New Zealand artists, so don't expect the Louvre. Currently there is a very large exhibit of Gottfried Lindauer paintings.... More

We had no time to see other areas of the museum, but the special exhibit of Lindauer portraits he made of Maori chieftains and wives was fascinating. Get there while it's available as there's nothing like it in the world.
