- KenVicLeeHuntington Beach, California2,091 contributionsSee The CityWe arrived just at their opening, 8:30 am. As the first ones up the elevator we had plenty of room to roam around the 360 view on both the first level and the second level. Although we had plans to go to their cafe for coffee when it opened at 9:30, we nixed the plan when it started to get crowded. But if all you want to do is have a birds-eye view of Auckland, this is a good investment for $25.00NZ.Kia Ora KenVicLee, Thank you so much for taking your time to review your Sky Tower experience and the 5/5 rating. I’m so delighted to read that you enjoyed you visit with us and were able to experience the expansive views without any crowds! - Linda CMoorpark, California1,068 contributionsGreat way to see beautiful Auckland! The tower is a great way to see Auckland and a must-see attraction for the first-time visitor to the beautiful city. On a weekday in February, we walked right in and bought our tickets (second in line in the afternoon.) It's 1,076' tall, so we were glad we didn't have to climb steps to the top. An elevator whisked us to Level 51, the main observation deck at 610'. The views on a sunny day were incredible! Then we hopped on another elevator to Level 60 at 722' to walk on a mind-blowing glass sidewalk. The tower is made of 2,000 tons of reinforced steel with 260 panes of glass. Engineers believe it's strong enough to withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake. Impressive!Hi Linda C, Thank you so much for taking time and writing your great experience on trip advisor and giving 5/5 rating. We are glad to hear that you visited on sunny day and explore all our levels and loved walking on glass floor too. Hoping to see you again in future. So you can enjoy evening view with lights too, as both morning & evening have completely different beauty which should not be missed. Kind Regards. - Jeff1903King's Lynn, United Kingdom1,566 contributionsViewIt is big and there is a great view from the top. You had better like glass because there is a lot of it around, including under your feet. General admission allows views from two levels and access to the café, but other attractions suck as the walk, jump and restaurant need extra tickets or reservations. Let's face it, you have come a long way to get to Auckland, so you had better go up the tower.Visited February 2020Written March 2, 2020

I've been up the Sky Tower a number of times over the years and the experience hasn't really changed. And that's the problem. On a whim I took my 9 year old up on a glorious spring day. The views were incredible, unlimited visibility in all directions. But in this day and age we've come to expect more from our tourist experiences. And there really isn't anything remarkable about this other than the height. The Sky Deck is closed under Covid restrictions (not sure why) and this was clearly explained before paying, but not reflected in the $45 price tag for an adult and child to ride an elevator.
There needs to be more interaction, something to capture the imagination. As it is it's a glorified tourist trap that survives on waves of tourist who wouldn't know better. A shame...

Hello roadieboys,
Thank you for taking time and writing your review about sky tower on trip advisor.
We apologies that Sky Deck was closed due to Level 2 restriction, It is not easy to maintain social distancing up at Sky Deck due to smaller space.
We appreciate your thoughts and concern, We have some new activities and other events coming soon, Unfortunately due to current restriction it got delayed.
Kind Regards,
Sakshi

We wanted to visit the tower after being told about it by a family member, the observation deck is on the 51st floor with the restaurant on the 52nd and the SkyWalk and SkyJump on the 53rd if you're game (or silly) enough, we tried to book for dinner on 2 different days but hadn't booked far enough ahead and both days were booked out so we settled for a late lunch instead as we were driving in from Paihia, as it was a Monday it wasn't busy at all. We were a little early so they let us go the observation deck first and then to the restaurant, the views were great from both though Auckland is not the most exciting city to look at but still worth it. The food was excellent perhaps a little pricey but that's to be expected and the staff were helpful and efficient.

We did this as part of the better value Sky Tower and All Blacks experience combo. You do need to pick your time. We had amazing views in every direction, but the next morning the tower was heavily cloaked in fog and I doubt it would have even been possible to see the ground!
It was good to go up to level 60 and look down on the wider level 51 first stopped at. From level 60 we saw people stepping off for the jump, then when back at level 51 it was easier for the kids to understand the people dropping past the window had just stepped off from the roof. Watching the live feed of people preparing to jump kept the kids entertained.

This was one of the best places I have ever gone to in Auckland.
The view was so cool and the gift shop had such amazing things although it was quite expensive I loved the experience and it was super fun. I absolutely recommend this place it's such a fun activity to do on the weekend then you can go shopping right after.

If you like variety during a meal then a buffet is usually the way to go and Fortuna Restaurant at Skycity is great value with a decent sized selection of tasty food. At about $30 for lunch for an adult (about $40 for dinner) it's not overly expensive and there's bound to be something there for almost everyone.
The staff are always helpful with varying degrees of friendliness... I've been many times over the years and a couple of the staff are practically friends now.
They provide water, hot and cold... tea, coffee and hot choclate, included in the buffet price. If you want juice, fizzy drinks or something alcoholic that is charged extra. Dinner is slightly more expensive because the food has a couple of extra options, but still very good value. I had some delicious Osso Bucco (Beef Stew) on Wednesday night (7th July) and lots of lovely large prawns, as well as the usual salads, surimi in sauce, succulent sliced ham... etc etc. Even the darn peas tasted nice. And then there's the desserts. Hehehe.

Short ride up and down and what you’ll see from the two observation decks will amaze. 360 views of greater Auckland, the buildings, parks, harbor and islands. You might even get to see a jumper go down. It’s a longer leap than the Eiffel Tower or Empire State and the other NZ bungee jumps. Even if you don’t jump, the glass floors and out-sloping windows give you a sense of how high you are at level 60.

My spouse and I both did the sky jump - 630 feet down in 11 seconds! what an adrenaline rush. The staff preparing us for the jump was helpful and very conscientious with regard to our safety. Every safety feature was double and triple checked. The staff at the landing site was also conscientious with regard to our safety, landing and helpful getting us unharnessed and out of the way of the equipment "going back up". Photos were taken through the entire jump and the videos are well worth the cost - who would believe us otherwise!

Don't miss the Sky Tower! Seniors pay $23 to go to the top. Really worth that. Beautiful city and countryside is visible. It was fun to watch people bungy jump and also simply walk around on the outside walkway. You can stay as long as you want and there are 2 levels from which to view scenery. Loved it!

The view of Auckland is awesome from up there but it's hard for me to justify the $40 price per adult entrance as you can finish viewing in 15 to 20 minutes.
Also, when we were going up initially the lady who assisted us at the elevator was a bit rude and condescending. She instructed us to go inside the elevator and told us the access to the top was through the 51st floor. We hop on and the doors close but the button to the 51st floor wouldn't light up when we pressed it so we open the door to look for the lady. We told her it wouldn't go. She rudely goes that you're not supposed to press any buttons, you're just supposed to wait for it to go up. We go inside again to wait and then we see her go to a screen press something and then the 51st floor button lights up. (We think she forgot to do it when we got inside the first time) so we wait, as was her instruction then she sees us inside waiting with the doors still open and glares at us and says "what's wrong now?" as the door shuts while she was still glaring (automatically of course as we were told not to touch any buttons)
Shout out to the staff at the photo station though. Complete opposite of that other lady. She was so friendly that it was hard for us not to get at least one of our photos. 😊

No lines, no herding, great views. We had some time to kill before leaving for the airport after a fabulous 2 weeks in New Zealand. Hubby suggested the Sky Tower, and...why not? A little pricey, but probably no more so than going up any big city sky tower. Views are spectacular. Restaurant is small and a bit crowded; we planned to grab a bite to eat while up there, but came down and ventured elsewhere. Recommend.

Hello, can I take a foto from this tower only through glass or is there also an opened terrace? Thanks. zdenek.kovar@centrum.cz
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your question on the SKYTOWER TripAdvisor page!
We do not have a open air viewing deck however our observation level windows are very clear and excellent quality photos can still be taken through them.
Warm Regards,
Amy
