I booked my trip a bit last minute the day before by phoning Mary from the website. Strangely, no one else had booked with Kiko tours , so Mary told me it would be a little extra since essentially it was going to be a private tour for just me, which was fine.

The only slight negative thing was it was cash only. But, I still loved the sights and scenery Mary took me to and it was all worth it to me. I especially loved the Hunua waterfall. It was a little short walk for the area, but that’s the best part of the tour for what I was looking for in terms of scenery.

Also I learned this business is a one person show. So Mary is the one who drives you around and for me she was able to customize it to places I haven’t been since there were places on her tour that other tour groups do too.

Overall, Mary was great, kind, patient, and professional. Thank you so much for the lovely tour! Highly recommended !

Kia ora Bush, We are delighted this tour of the Hunua Falls was a highlight for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback to us. We never tire of the diverse scenery on this tour ranging from waterfalls and rain forest to rural farmland and panoramic coastal views. We were so glad we could customise the destinations, commentary and discussions to suit you. It was a pleasure to meet and travel with you. Take care Bush. Warmest regards, Ngā mihinui, Mary Kiko Guided Tours

We crammed in several trips during our 6 night stay in New Zealand but this was the best of the lot. We did the Wilderness Tour and Mary was fantastic from start to finish.

On our tour there was only ourselves and another lady so it was very personal and Mary took time to make sure we were all OK and were getting out of the tour what we wanted.

She was extremely knowledgeable and actually gave us great value for money as the tour overran by a good hour or so (she checked it was OK with everyone first). The provided picnic was great, more than enough food for everyone.

100% recommend Mary and her tours.

Kia ora Paul, Thank you so much for your excellent review! It was such a pleasure to show you around our beautiful sights and take a bush walk on our Waitakere Wilderness Tour. We hope you both enjoyed your visit as much as we love living here. Hope you come back one day soon. All the very best. Ka nui te mihi, Mary

Our guide, Mary provided a custom tour for us to accommodate our one day stay in Auckland. She was a wealth of information throughout our tour, with cultural, geographical and historical commentary.

It was more of a car trip rather than a guided tour. There was very little commentary, history and local knowledge delivered. Little enthusiasm or love of the city given by our tour guide. There were only 4 people on our tour, and when we were out and about, Mary did not speak to us as a group, but would relate to us more individually if we asked her a question. Perhaps she was having an 'off' day. Also the air-conditioning on the vehicle was not working on that hot day, and one person felt very unwell as a result of it. Disappointing and wouldn't recommend it.
On this trip to NZ, we did five different city tours, and this was by far the worse. I'm sorry to be this bluntly honest and have to write this on a review,

Kia ora Mariam, We are sorry that you found this tour disappointing. There is historical and cultural commentary given as we travel towards key destinations. With questions and answers either shared collectively or individually. The guide accompanies guests throughout the tour while ensuring individuals are able to reach key destinations comfortably. We apologised to the guest who felt unwell at the end of this tour.

I rarely write reviews but this one deserves a praise! We had had 5 tours before this one - enough to compare. What a knowledgeable and fun guide Mary was! The route of the tour is so diverse: waterfalls, rain forest, black sand beach and an amazing drive along the coast! The tour lasted longer (by 2 hours) than scheduled and not at any moment Mary hurried us: she gave us her full attention at all times. She is not pushy, gives you privacy if you want, at the same time right there with answers ready when you need her. Very pleasant to be around. With her Maori background she knows so many native names of plants and birds. And she gave so much thought and preparation to the picnic lunch! Highly recommend this trip!!!

Although the weather stopped us from doing what we had booked, Mary had a plan to entertain us for the full day. She was knowledgeable and friendly, and had fun, interesting facts to keep us all fascinated with the history and ecological plight. With her Maori genealogy, Mary was able to give a very balanced view between cultures and we would fully recommend anyone to travel with her.

On my last day in New Zealand (July 19, 2019), Mere was gracious to take me out on a rainy day to see the Hunua Falls in South Auckland and then an improvised introduction across the Auckland Harbour Bridge to Devonport. Mere provided a simple, homemade and yummy tea break in Devonport. The rain made the Hunua Falls much more dramatic and left me happily with much more time to learn about Maori culture and words from Mere. It suited me well that it was a 9:30-4ish day. It was a welcome break from some of the jam packed full day tours. Thank you, Mere for a fun and very memorable day in New Zealand! Ka kite anō! :)
