RNZN museum

Met up with people I had not seen for 40 years. Good café and coffee. Museum is SOOO interesting. Curator was known to us and we were able to get an inside view.

Caught the ferry over which was easy and pleasant and went for a walk round town but it was very quiet perhaps a Tuesday in August is not ideal. What was lovely was a local woman we met (she said she was a secret agent) kidnapped us and took us up to the top of Mt Victoria to see the... More

A naturally pretty location but sadly some of the shops looking tired and disturbing to see so many "to lease signs" Interesting art galleries to visit and very cute boutique type gift shops. A visit to Peter Raos glass studio is a must also Devonport Chocolate shop. We ate lunch at Platter, food was good but service very slow and... More

My first summer in December. Love the beaches. Like all other fortresses, there's a 15-minute historical movie to watch. A good place for family day and picnic. Great scenery. It's windy on the hill top, constantly blowing my broad brim hat away.

I took the ferry at night over to Devonport for a great view of the skyline of Auckland. It is only NZD 12 round trip. Devonport has a number of restaurants and bars open in the evening, but the shops were mostly closed after 5:00 pm.

Devonport is one of the places you will go back to again and again. The town is pretty with lots of restaurants and coffee shops, the smells from the local bakery are heaven. This town is worth the visit. Go by car or use the ferry but get there AND take your camera.

Always love to take visitors to Devonport. Reminds me of the Victorian houses in San Francisco and the view from Mt. Victoria is breathtaking! Also love exploring the quaint shops and watching the seagulls near the wharf.

I never tire of going over to Devonport and enjoying walking or driving around and going up to the viewpoints - Mt Victoria and Northhead and along the beaches

Fabulous location across from the City, easily reached by ferry and a great day out in the open with amazing views across to the City and out to the Gulf. Bring a picnic and wander around the old Naval fortifications and understand why the British built this to protect Auckland from.......
