Wasn’t sure what to expect for my first show at this theatre, great atmosphere and even the coat check and pre-show area was outstanding.
Friendly staff, fun and exciting venue.
The show. Rendered! Wow. Thought provoking. Great acting and relevant to NZ’s current situation.
Highly recommend

Last week I visited the ASB waterfront for an event. The lobby was very spacious, toilets very accessible and the bar was nice and long. Also had a coat check which is great for winter. All the seats we entered were on the top level - there is stairs or a lift to get up there. However going across the bridge to get to the other entrance to the theatre was a bit scary. Every time some one took a step it shook..safe to say we didn’t walk back that way. I also just wish parking was closer. But not a bad venue for an event. The food - if it was catered by the venue - wasn’t great. The lamb skewer I had was super hard to eat and take off the skewer. And the mini sliders the buns were so crispy that it made a big mess!

This theatre is a great addition to the Auckland cultural scene.
Easy access for all, including wheelchairs.
The staff are very helpful.
Of course, each show is different but the 3 we have been to have been great.
This is not a big theatre so you feel closer to the action. Well designed so every seat has a good view. I wouldn't sit right up front though as the stage is at about head height.
Very comfy seats.

I was expecting a fabulous large impressive theatre based on the size of the building and since I thought this area was supposed to be a showpiece along with the viaduct for visitors. I was really disappointed and almost embarrassed at the size of the theatre being someone from Auckland.
The spiral staircase is a pointless dangerous addition. We did use the lift also as I was with an elderly relative.
We decided to sit near the stage for once and the speakers beside us were deafening. They should be up higher not deafening the patrons.
Taking the cap off a bottle of drink you pay for so you cant drink it when you want is just money making and ridiculous at a theatre. I expect it at concerts in stadiums.
I went with my Mum but there is no catergory for that on trip advisor.

How did this building get the ok to open. If there was an emergency the spiral staircase would be out. One person falls and its useless. Just leaving an event the other night was difficult. Then everyone is directed to the one other staircase with 2 floors and 4 streams of people all converging on it. Hopeless. Toilets all the way down on the ground floor. Women lining the walkways as yet another complex does not have enough females toilets. For a new building the architect was obviously after the design award. Not the practical use award. Only plus was the threatre was new. Would i go again. Probably not.

Just to set your mind at ease. The spiral staircase is not part of our emergency evacuation procedure. Each theatre auditorium door at ASB Waterfront Theatre has its own separate emergency exit and route, with a staff member positioned at each to evacuate audiences. The audience evacuation route is down our back of house staircases and I can assure you they are wide sturdy staircases and our emergency procedure is robust. It has to be. We take our health and safety responsibilities extremely seriously. Regarding the women’s toilets, funnily enough we have often been complimented on how many women’s toilets we provide. We have 18 women’s toilets on the ground floor . Although you can never really have enough, especially when everyone is rushing there at the same time during interval or just before or after the show, we ensured that our theatre design allowed for as many women’s toilets as possible. Designing a theatre on a small footprint is a tricky task indeed, our architects worked their magic to create the best balance possible.

We saw a couple of standard stage plays here, and during the COVID crisis three solo turns. Friendly knowledgeable staff, easy access to seats, a pleasant experience each time.

I've been to a number of plays at the ASB Waterfront Theatre, and it never fails to measure up. The staff are helpful, the venue is modern, toilets clean and the café and bar offer quick service with lovely eats or icecream. They service wines in lovely plastic glasses (that you would struggle to identify were not glass) and the theatre itself has great seating, excellent views of the stage and is easily accessable.

Whilst it is a bit off the beaten track the Waterfront Theatre is well worth the walk. Yes it is easy walking distance from the city center. Unfortunately, it is not yet well signposted. By the way if you drive and use the car park make sure you don't leave your car there after the show. They lock it up after an hour.
There is a lovely little cafe in the foyer. It has good coffee and nice food with vegetarian options. My wife and I had a scone before the show. Everything was clean and the atmosphere was good.
The auditorium is comfortable, so long as you are not allergic to wool. The seats are covered in a wool heavy fabric. There are no obstructions to sight-lines so where ever you sit there will be a clear view of the stage. The information we received with out tickets indicated a very strict lockout policy for late comers. They did not enforce that so we were disturbed a couple of times. Please turn up at the start of the show.
We were there to see an adaptation of 1984. It was theatrically brilliant but emotionally harrowing. If this represents the quality of show they always put on I will certainly be returning.
