- MDU54Philadelphia, Pennsylvania54 contributionsIdeal location to stay at for visiting Viaduct Harbor and boarding cuise shipsWe are boarding a cruise ship here in two days. Rented an apartment at Princes Wharf and are within 10 minutes of Viaduct Harbour (tons of great restaurants and pubs and great place to people watch). We are also within a ten minute walk of where our cruise ship will dock (Queens Wharf). Our apartment is through Princes Wharf Select Apartments. The apartment is a 4 out of 5. There is also a Hilton Hotel that is on this wharf about 3 minutes walk from our apartment. Serveral places to eat (Hiilton has a very nice breakfast buffet). The apartments and hotel rooms have harbor views available at a higher price. The wharf area is safe and we felt safe walking around the downtown area of Auckland. There is construction in progress between the two wharfs but still a modest ten minute walk towing suitcases on wheels. Princes Wharf is not a place to visit for entertainment. It is an ideal location to stay and has some nice places to eat.Visited March 2020Written March 7, 2020
- Christina CCoquitlam, Canada6,386 contributionsPrinces WharfWe disembarked from Princes Wharf and were guided out of the terminal, there was no chance to explore and it was very early, there was no store nor restaurant open. This wharf is not just for cruise ships to embark and disembark, they also have multi story luxury apartments and a Hilton Hotel, I guess the view must be great with the price that goes with it. We went back there in the afternoon to browse around the souvenir store on the main floor. Happy Travelling!Visited March 2019Written January 12, 2020
- SAB5859Banff, United Kingdom4,389 contributionsOur Cruise Ship Docked HereOur cruise ship docked at Princess Wharf which was ideal as it’s right next to the centre of Auckland. It’s a very short walk into the main shopping area of Auckland. There are a good few restaurants/bars on the wharf along with the Hilton Hotel. There is also a tourist information office here too. The OK gift shop is worth a visit if you’re looking for any souvenirs or gifts. The car park on the wharf holds over 800 cars.Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 14, 2020
- Keith MPompano Beach, Florida3 contributionsNO REFUND AND NOT POSSIBLE TO CONTACTWe had reserved a room at Princess Wharf for two nights ( March 30 and April 1). In March during the Covid-19 pandemic, New Zealand closed its borders and we were unable to complete our travel plans. Hotels.com sent us an email that there would be no charge even though the date of canceling without a charge had passed. Princess Wharf owners also sent us an email that the charges would be dropped as well. The charges were not dropped. We filed a dispute with our credit card company and finally found out the refund would not be granted. This makes no sense and shows a lack of empathy and a level of greed we do not appreciate. In addition we could never get anyone to answer the phone which was also the experience of Hotels.com when they told us we would have to contact the owners directly. BUT NO ONE ANSWERS THEIR PHONE!! Be careful when reserving with this hotel. We were anticipating having a great time but have been totally disappointed with how they handled this situation.Visited March 2020Written August 31, 2020

Since then the wharf has been totally redeveloped with high end apartments, revamped Oveaseas Passenger Terminal and the Hilton Hotel is based there also. Although the transformation of the wharf was seen to be successful, the archiecture of the wharf has been considered by some to be sterile. There are some exceptional views from the wharf of Auckland CBD, Viaduct Harbour and the Harbour Bridge can be seen in the distance.Visited February 2017Traveled as a coupleWritten February 4, 2017
- on_the_go_9876518,335 contributionsBest view is from a cruise shipPrincess Wharf is very, very close to Viaduct Basin (where there is actually some iota of vitality which is sorely lacking here) and, fortunately, we did not have to endure the less than inspiring Princess Wharf views or environment for too long. Granted, while the awesome views of the CBD from the ship were memorable, the Princess Wharf itself was sadly lacking. This is a post WW II creation, knocked for being "urbanely sterile" (which it is, in spades) and it is first and foremost a "passenger terminal." Woo hoo. My advise is to venture forth a bit to the Viaduct Harbor aka Viaduct Basin for a bit more interest and a lot more character. Here you will find bars, cafes, restaurants and lots more (like park areas). However, from the ship's eye-view, the city looks pretty sweet from this angle. Glad we did not spend more time stomping around this wharf. Color me not overly impressed. Guess that is obvious.Visited February 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2019
- santo tAuckland, New Zealand7,589 contributionsJust mediocreIt should be another lovely place at the water front of Auckland. However, after developed into some private functions and buildings such as multi storey luxury apartments and Hilton Hotel, the access to the end of the wharf is somewhat restricted, although it is still free. As the consequences these developments they also need parking spaces and this reduce more the open space for public, not good. What remaining now are narrow alleys between multi storeys buildings, block the sunshine and create wind tunnels, not really nice place. On the facing east side two or three restaurants are available with Auckland Information Site along this side. On the opposite facing west side, more and plenty high class restaurants are in row here. This open space will be more restricted during the cruise ships berthing on the east side. Well, the Queens Wharf on the opposite side as comparison, probably more relax, visitor friendly, and touristy.Visited August 2018Traveled as a coupleWritten August 30, 2018

Good development, easily reached from our hotel (Crowne Plaza), selection of bars and restaurants and maritime museum. We had a lovely Italian meal, great service with a good/average price tag.

We ate at Soul Bar and Bistro on the wharf. An exciting place with may tables overlooking the water. Food tremendous and the waiter was genuinely wonderful. Great walk afterwards along the boardwalk to see the place for the next America's cup. The suspension bridge opened up to let yachts go through. Found a great place for coffee to round off a great outing.

The wharf opened in 1929 has undergone change and is now a multi-use development with apartments and a terminal for Cruise Liners. Worth a walk for the views and may some of the restaurants.
