Stunning park in Perth's CBD. Getting here via public transport was a bit tricky, but it was worth the effort. The park is bigger than I first thought and includes various sights to look at, including a river and a waterfall. There's a children's playground and areas for picnics. Plenty of birdlife is also present. Made for some fantastic photos - would definitely recommend.

The park is bigger than I expected with a lake and large ponds. Water cascading down some rocks and spraying up from a fountain, tall trees and green lawns, a playground for children, some scrub vegetation to allow water birds to hide. Saw herons, cormorants, black swans and various species of ducks. All this in area crisscrossed by highways with lots of motorized traffic.

Named after John Oldham, once member of Australia's Communist party, later famous as a landscape architect. Oldham and his wife opposed the demolition of Perth's heritage buildings in the 1960 and 70s. Perhaps their resistance and that of others resulted in at least some concessions of which this park is one. Oldham died at the age of 91 in 1999.

Paid $4 for parking to see a stagnant pond with dead fish. The waterfall was not functioning - just mud and even looked like a homeless person may have been sleeping there at night. So disappointing considering how beautiful it has been reported to be in the past.

After reading in The Weekend West a few weeks ago about WA 's hidden treasures we packed the camera excited to see what would be a lovely waterfall right on the outskirts of the CBD. It looked really lush and shaded as we drove by but when we got to the car park it was 24 hour paid parking! We decided to risk it as we knew we would not be there long (it is a small park) and it is boxing day.

We started off and there were beautiful tall shading trees providing lots of shade. We glimpsed a playground and benches strategically placed in amongst the trees. The waterways seemed to be flowing and then we rounded the corner and came across a muddy rubbish strewn mess with no water flowing from the waterfall!!!

What a total disaster especially when there was such a good write up in the paper! The council should be ashamed of themselves. It is now obvious that someone flicked the off switch and in the midst of our peak tourist season.

Walking back to the car we laughed and said to compound the disaster there probably would be a parking ticket waiting for us, thankfully not otherwise I'd be at the council building disputing it.

This is a nice park in western Perth and for the past few days, I've seen the water fountain in operation every day. It seems to be working during the day time and turned off at dusk.

I enjoyed the location, the birdlife that you see here, the serenity of the pond, and the peacefulness here (yes, despite it being between a few major roads).

Well worth a visit and it's free.

This little park is virtually in the middle of the freeway in the Narrows Interchange. There are beautiful lush gardens, including a waterfall and lakes which are home to hundreds of birds, including black swans. There are baby swans being born now so please please take care driving in the area! Great place to relax.

This is a lovely park, full of greenness and well laid out paths. There are lots of local birds of every size, colour and shape - ibises, swans, pelicans, kookaburras, ducks, etc etc. our young daughter had a great time exploring and testing out all the playground equipment. Every visit (we stayed in a nearby apartment), and we went a few times. The waterfall was working, fortunately, and so was the big fountain in the middle of the main lake area. Recommend this place for a bit of peace and quiet. It is only a 7 minute walk from the city centre, for those who don't want to use an expensive parking lot.
