Nice building with good services and extensive collections.
But............no entry without and "approved mask" Home-made masks not permitted, bandanas not permitted. Have visited numerous other venues...including the nearby WA Museum over the last couple of days with no issue. But SLWA was adament that the home-made mask was unacceptable.
However, they DID provide a free "acceptable" mask to allow entry.
So not all bad

For anyone wanting to find out about Western Australia, the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) is a good starting point. For local history, the Battye Library is a resource that cannot be surpassed. The SLWA has many books about WA which are not duplicated elsewhere, The library often has interesting exhibitions. By the way, you can't get a library card if you are not a resident of WA. The history of WA is quite fascinating, full of booms and busts.

Several floors in a modern and bright buiding. As always in these places, the staff always seem pleased to see you. Of course, there are plenty of students and they have acres of space and plentiful resources. Kids are also well catered for.

If you are looking for novels to read, don't go to the state library of WA. They cater more to educational reading and research books. They have a massive library, so whatever you are studying I'm sure they have an abundance of reading material for you.

Hi - and thanks for the review. You are right we are a reference library . However, the good news is that we have a new loanable collection on the ground floor that features fiction and non-fiction books focusing on WA writers and WA stories.
Of course if you become a member - which is free - you have free access to a whole world of free ebooks and resources.

Visited earlier today looking for an obscure book. We were met by Anne at the front desk who was most helpful and friendly. Helped us to find exactly what we needed. Thankyou!

Wonderful selection of books including many on Australia. Relatively easy to work it all out and one can even buy used library books from the shop o the ground level.

Thank you so much for your kind words.
We try hard to please.
The great thing about the State Library is that everything we offer is free, and we welcome all.

Not your usual idea of a library. Near cafes, restaurants, museum and art gallery. Great location. Not only has library facilities but a gift shop selling unique items and a cafe near the lecture theatre. Parking available underneath building for a fee.
