- HeathSingapore, Singapore566 contributionsBe prepared to use up some physical strength, but the view is amazing! It's spacious and thick. It takes a lot of stamina to walk around the vast grounds in February (midsummer) when temperatures are over 41 degrees! This was especially true since we walked there from the center of Perth. However, the view of the Perth cityscape across the Swan River from the high ground was amazing.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 10, 2024
- Bob HGerringong, Australia60 contributionsKings Park Walking TourThe free walking tour is great. Lead by a volunteer guide with plenty of knowledge. It’s all about the flora and fauna really with a little bit of history thrown in. A gorgeous spot to walk around, sit in the shade or just relax to take it all in. Great views back to the city of Perth. The walk took approx 1.5 hours and is an easy stroll even for the elderly. Well worth it.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 16, 2024
- Darren LQueenstown, Maryland925 contributionsHighlight of PerthWhat a beautiful place in an amazing location. While a very hot day, the shady areas and breezes made in more tolerable. There are many different paths and the walking not difficult. Clearly can accommodate a wide range of mobility and fitness.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 18, 2024
- jeky42 contributionsIt's a nice place, but people with hay fever should be careful!I took a leisurely stroll through the park. It's very large, so you'll need a map. The temperature was over 30°C on the day I visited, but the humidity was low, so it was nice to walk. The view from the hills is amazing. Perth is a beautiful city with good weather, but it seems like there's some kind of pollen flying around all year round. I had terrible allergies the whole time I was in Perth, and I inhaled a lot of pollen, especially in the botanical gardens. If you don't have allergies, it's a really nice place.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 7, 2024
- avrilritchieDundee, United Kingdom304 contributionsWonderfulAbsolutely fabulous. Went twice during our week in Perth. Plants are wonderful as are the views. A great place just to relax in and so easy to get to with the Cat. We had a really nice lunch here too - lots of options in the restaurant at reasonable prices. We loved it.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024

The view of the city is great and also allows you to see the river at its best. There are several areas within the park to see different things and the café is a good starting place.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024

Marvellous and so much to see and learn Thanks a million our guide Del, paced at a speed and depth of knowledge ...wow. Bit too hot for me at 81 y.o., in February but managed ok taking a slow pace. Can't believe what great value the park is too, entry, parking and guide free, wouldn't happen in the UK! Only seen about 20% so must return. Please make a contribution in the Information Bureau to keep this excellant facility functioning. Thanks volunteers too.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 30, 2024
- RAISAAuckland Central, New Zealand4 contributionsKings ParkKings Park is HUGE! Luckily, they have this awesome shuttle bus for tired parents (bless them). The kids loved exploring the winding paths and giant trees – perfect for playing hide-and-seek and pretending they were explorers. Gift shop was a hit, but beware: you'll end up buying a weirdly realistic stuffed possum. Worth it for the peace and quiet on the ride home.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 4, 2024
- Rochelle FRandolph, New Jersey1,240 contributionsA wonderful park to visitA must do if in Perth and it is nice weather. We walked from CBD, taking Lottery West Federation Walkway, to Kokadi Steps -this is all uphill. The gardens are lovely. I wanted to see the baobab tree, a 760+ year old tree, transplanted from the Kimberleys. There is also a smaller tree a few feet away. We lunched in the cafe (there are 2 areas with different menus) and then wandered back across the park to the glass bridge which was very cool and around to the lookouts.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2024

ON this most recent visit we were there twice. Amazing views looking over Perth CBD. Immaculately kept grass area and war memorial. Some wonderful walks laid out through the botanical gardens. We visited yesterday but decided to go back again today. Unfortunately, the temperature was 41° but we still walked around and had a look at the beautiful flowers and trees and waterways ,and the view over the city which is amazing… it’s close to the city and there’s free bus transport there from the city as well which is good. There’s a great gift shop, which is a tad expensive I have to say. There’s also toilet blocks and a couple of cafes.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden provides so many options; views of the city, avenues of mature eucalypt trees, elevated walkway, bird-watching, formal gardens, bushland, cafes, walking, sitting on benches and enjoying the sun. Various guided tours and other activities are also available.
We spent a couple of hours exploring the park and garden. Our first stop was to admire views of the city of Perth. Next we opted to take about a 45 minute walk that included the elevated walkway. The walkway allows you to experience various plants from canopy height. It's a gorgeous structure. Various species of birds could be observed feeding on nectar, flying overhead or perching in trees.
Our next walk was to explore a garden designed for children, in particular school groups. This included ponds and structures for climbing.
From here, we drove to the Zamia Cafe for coffee and a snack, then took a walk around the lake.
Kings Park is a popular destination, and on sunny days the car parks seem to fill; especially around lunch time. Having a car is useful if you're hoping to explore multiple trails throughout the Park. Being mainly outdoors, dress appropriately and remember sunscreen.

Made for a lovely morning walk. If you love kangaroo paw and protea plants, this is the place to come, for there are literally hundreds of these plants around the gardens. It's not a very hilly garden which my legs greatly appreciated, and there are plenty of sign posts/maps throughout the gardens. Also provides great opportunities for birdwatching; I happened to see galahs, honeyeaters and a kookaburra during my visit. Transportation here is free if you get the Blue CAT bus which stops at Elizabeth Quay bus station. Unless you desperately want some locally-made art/other merchandise, I would advise to avoid the gift shop, as most items are ridiculously overpriced, even though they are handmade.

Worst $58 spent. Here's a tip - save the $58 or spend it on something good that you'll enjoy. This "show" was terrible for more than 1 reason. As you begin walking the track, there is a tranquil, low background song/voice speaking in Noongar and Noongar words written within the lights and, due to the collection of the "show", thought that the show was incorporating Noongar culture, but keep on walking and suddenly, Abba was playing?
Quite a lot of the lights weren't even turned on, i assume they were broken...
The effects of the lighting on the coloured strings that made the string look like laser beams was a good idea, but real lasers would've definitely made it more effective.
The worst part was the traffic jam of people all on the 2 person wide footpath slowly moving forward. I got extremely claustrophobic that we had to take a short cut because I felt like I couldnt breathe, there was that many people squished together. My anxiety sky rocketed. Overpopulated, once again humans ruined it. Far too many people, packed on one slim path.
This isnt the producers fault, it was entirely our mistake for not preparing aheas, but i checked the weather that morning/arvo, was told by a few different people that there wasnt going to be anymore rain, maybe a bit of a light drizzle but hardly, so, i go there wearing ugg boots and a fur trench coat, none of us remembered an umbrella, and it starts bucketing down very heavily.
Walking down Fraser Ave out of there, and suddenly it starts to really stink. Bore water. Way to end an already disappointing night.

You could easily spend a whole day here. The food at the cafe near the family playground is sensational and well priced. I recommend the fish and chips and vege wrap. There is some maintenance work going on there at the moment and its a bit of a walk to get around to different parts of the park as some entrances are blocked off to foot traffic so take a car if you can. The gift shop has incredible glass pieces as well as lots of other unusual items. We loved the glass footbridge and the place of reflection as well as the water gardens. As you walk around there are incredible views over Perth and the water.

Recently went to the Lightscape Show at Kings Park with three other adults. We went at a time that was supposed to have limited admission to cut down the number of people there. If this was actually the case, I would not like to see it without the limited admission. It was extremely crowded which detracted from the beauty of the display. The light show is very well put together and a great pleasure to see. There are QR codes throughout which you can't really enjoy due to the crowds; these explain what each stage is about. The track was not inclusive. If you had any kind of mobility issue or required a walking aid/wheel chair, you wouldn't be able to go. Aside from these negatives, I really did enjoy it. I'd love to go again with a lot less people around.

Probably one of Australia's largest botanic gardens - I would recommend spending a few hours walking around the entire park to see what is on offer (or a short drive).
The most outstanding feature of this park is the breathtaking views of Perth CBD. I highly recommend visiting from late afternoon and staying until evening to enjoy the breathtaking sunset over Perth's skyscrapers. It's so peaceful to watch the cars pass by in the distance, and the ferries return to the Barrack St jetty.

King's Park & Botanical Gardened was officially opened to the public in 1895 and is today a 400 hectare public park and Green Lung in the heart of Perth. The park is considered on of the largest inner city parks in the world and offers a variety of of ecological areas with trails, natural bushland, grassy fields with family-friendly activity areas as well as a world-class botanical garden with a wide range of plant and tree species on display.
The Park butts up against the Swan River and has elevated positions with very nice views of the city, there are monuments scattered throughout and a couple nice restaurants, kiosks for food & drink and art gallery shop near the Botanical Garden. There is free 2-hour parking in various locations around Kings Park as well as public and Blue Cat bus stops in the park for those wanting to use public transportation.
We very much enjoyed having breakfast at Zumia Cafe in Kings Park and proceeding to make way over the the Botanical Garden area of the Park where we spent another 2 hours wandering the area grounds. Would have enjoyed trying a trail or two if time had allowed. Look forward to exploring more of Kings Park when next in Perth.

Definitely recommend. So many walking trails and informative signs to help you navigate beautiful paths, flowers, trees and other landmarks. Saw many tropical birds, spring wildflowers and city views. Went on a cloudy day, and it was still stunning, would be really hot on a sunny day.
The park is easy to access with the free city bus, has a beautiful gift shop, restaurant/cafe, and a war memorial. Spend a couple hours here, exploring stunning nature, in the heart of the city.

Such a vast and beautiful place!
We could’ve done with a lot longer to explore this park as it’s so big, you need at least half a day to take it all in. The weather wasn’t the best when visited either so the photos look quite dull with cloud overhead but I promise you this place is well worth a visit! The bridge is a must see, either from below looking up or walking across and seeing the costal views of Perth.
We loved it and would definitely visit again but would probably do a guided tour to make sure we didn’t miss anything!

Hi, I thought I read somewhere that near Kings Park was a smaller park with a fantastic bamboo alley. Am i right in thinking it was in Kings Park, Perth?
Written November 5, 2019
Japan is the place to see bamboo. Not sure the climate is quite right in Perth. If a park as you describe does exist, it is very well hidden and unsigned.

If you are still in Perth, I'd recommend paying a visit to the "Friends Restaurant". You don't just pay for the food, but also the experience. Have a look at the restaurant's reviews and their menu and decide for yourself if the cuisine suits your tastes first though! May not be for everyone :)

There is always something to look at all year round.
It is a spectacular location, highly recommend this park anytime of the year.

Is there public transport to the park from Perth CBD
Written October 28, 2018
Yes, there is a free 935 bus from the city which drops you off right at the park and the same number bus returns you to the city.

Yes south of the park is good but many areas are good for children to play

Visiting Perth on a cruise ship early April. What can I expect to see blooming in the Botanical gardens at King’s Park that time of year. Also the distance from the cruise port to the city centre. Thank you.
Written January 17, 2018
Hi, April is the start to our winter so there will be little in bloom at that time of the year as far as native plants go. Our Spring and wild flower season starts in September. There are river cruises available on the swan river and if the day is nice it is beautiful. Strangely enough when I was a young woman I worked on that cruise and we used to do a commentary on the down stream leg. The company is called Captain Cook Cruises and worth an investigation. They used to give one way upstream trips.
Fremantle, where you will dock is unique to Perth which is metropolitan and has a different feel. Much more laid back. you will already be in the harbour where there is a fabulous new Maritime Museum which will give lots of history and there is also an old Prison within walking distance. Recommended This will give you an incite into Bushrangers and prison immigrants that colonised West Australia. The offer tours with some of them being underground where you can paddle in canoes. There is some ladder climbing involved.
The train will take you to the heart of Perth and just outside the station there are Free cat busses each one taking you to a different area. This is a shopping district with many skyscrapers that house large mining companies. It is still a beautiful city. At the station entrance there is a help centre and you are able to hire lockers.
Enjoy your stay :)
