About
The Blue Room Theatre has been the creative hub of Western Australia's independent theatre scene for nearly 30 years, located in the heart of Perth's Cultural Centre. If you haven't been to our venue, you may have heard our shows. Helpmann-nominated "The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer", "Letters Home", and "Those Who Fall in Love like Anchors Dropped Upon the Ocean Floor" all began here; as did the careers of Matthew Lutton, Kate Mulvany, Tim Minchin, Claire Hooper, the members of The Last Great Hunt, and many more! We foster new talent, and new work through a year round program presenting and developing the best new independent performances from WA and abroad. With a 29 year legacy of providing the resources, advocacy, and space to make independent theatre happen in Perth, we'd love for you to come visit us, and check out a show.

I hadn't known about the Blue Room Theatre until the other day.
It's a great venue adapted out of part of the Old Perth Boys School in the Perth Cultural Centre, Northbridge. There is a good bar, refreshments, and tables to sit at. The performance space I attended (there are two) is clearly a former classroom, but delightful space for an intimate playhouse.
An old friend had invited me to come along to a performance of 'The Wolves', an exciting play about eight young women soccer players from a High School somewhere in Middle America, dealing with their hopes, their losses, their ambitions....
The cast of eight local actors manage their lines brilliantly and with a lot of laughs, all while they do their presses, among other things.
The best play I've seen in ages.
It runs for 90 minutes. The time flashed by. I was disappointed when it ended!
It's on until the 7th September. Highly recommended!
But if you're in town beyond this, check the Theatre out.
If you like little theatre, this is BIG

The Blue Room is Perth's home of innovative theatre. The Blue Room has two performance spaces, both of which can accommodate approximately 50 people. The Blue Room also has an upstairs bar, which opens around one hour before the performance begins. The Blue Room is comfortable without being luxurious. If you are lucky, you may be able to get a ticket at the downstairs box-office on the night, but it is advisable to book in advance. The Blue Room is not a "commercial" theatre; you never know what the show will be like until you see it for yourself.

This was my 4th trip to Perth and I wanted to see some independent theatre. It was great to head to the Blue Room Theatre and see an original Australian work ‘Threshold’ performed to such a high standard. And the ticket price of $20 was fantastic given live theatre ticket prices in Australia are known to be exorbitant. No excuses here for not supporting the Arts! ðŸŽ
Blue Room Theatre has an alternative vibe and the spaces are non-traditional. Operating for 29 years, artists can apply to the theatre with ideas/concepts/scripts and the theatre will assist with development and support the artists present their own work (rather than producing the shows itself). This results in a an excellent variety of theatre presentations.
Also, why not make a night of it? The theatre is right in the heart of buzzing Northbridge and there is lots to do. I grabbed a burrito at nearby Guzman y Gomez and a drink at the Blue Room bar before the show, then treated myself to a massage at the Chinese Massage Centre afterwards. Then on the way home I was able to check out the impressive new CBD attraction Yagan Square.
It ended up being a Perth CBD adventure with a great night at the theatre as the highlight,
