Perth's favourite playground, the Swan River is a stunning waterway which winds its way from the Darling Scarp to Fremantle. This natural attraction is popular location for Perth locals and visitors to enjoy a day out boating, fishing, skiing, paddling, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying its vista.Rich in environmental and cultural values, the Swan River was named Derbal Yerrigan by the local Aboriginals who believe that the river was created by the rainbow serpent ‘Waugal’, a dreamtime spirit taking the form of a giant snake. It is believed that the Waugal created creeks, waterholes, lakes and valleys on its journey to the ocean.

We caught the ferry down the Swan River to fremantle. A 40 minute trip that was both leisurely and informative with the boat captain giving a running commentary on the points of interest. A great way to spend a day.

I went for a walk along the river for both mornings I was staying in Perth. A refreshing and clean walk, and a comfortable walk. Surrounding are fantastic.

The Swan is a resource that can be enjoyed by everyone. It presents a vista of tranquility regardless of which angle from which it is viewed. My favorite is from the ferry that runs from the City to South Perth, which is cheap and always a mini-adventure. It is also a wonderful body of water to walk along, or to... More

The banks of swan river are so beautiful. Perfect place for a nice walk, or bike ride or jogging. On Sunday morning half of the town was jogging there.

The commercial boat tours are fairly priced and comfortable. It gives you a very nice view of the waterfront and houses around. Walking around waterside is not much compaired to Europe lakes or riversides.

The Swan River is so integral to the beauty of Perth. Whether it's the view of Perth waters from either riverside drive that will provide a beautiful view of South Perth or mill point road where the view of down town Perth is incredible. Then the drive through Kings Park, Crawley, Nedlands, Dalkeith and Claremont then down through Peppermint Grove,... More

Staying in a Hotel close to the Swan River was so ideal. Spent a lot of time strolling along it with my partner especially at night after Dinner. There's nothing nicer than walking under the stars with lights reflecting on the water and occasionally seeing a swan swimming along side us.

Some locals merely passed thru the Swan daily stretching from the Western Suburbs all the way to the banks of South. The beauty of the Swan River at anypoint of the day be it sunrise midday or sunset is truly a sight to behold. One of the great wonders in Australia, definitely Perths main attraction. Waters maybe rough or calm... More
