I loved the many faces of Roebuck Bay. I think it showed the tidal movement better than Cable Beach and the water was forever changing color.

We saw it from the air as well as ground level and it is impressive to see and from the air the town does not feature, seams to blend in with the surroundings, other than the airstrip that you can't very well hide!

Roebuck Bay is on the eastern side of the peninsula when you visit Broome, and it's also where the largest part of the town is built, so you can hardly miss seeing it. It's not exactly a place you "visit" as such, because the city is built alongside it. But there are some unique features about it, which are worth knowing about. Firstly, lots of mangroves dot the shores - we learned that insect repellant in the evenings is a must in these areas. There's a few places to access the ocean, which has a very unique blue colour, Town Beach being one. At certain times of the month the Staircase to the Moon can be enjoyed - where as moonrise and low tide the moon reflects on the mudflats. We were told that the best places to view this were the Mangrove Hotel and Town Beach. We opted for the Mangrove Hotel, and while it was crazy busy there, it is slightly elevated, so the views were fantastic. They also play atmospheric music at the time of the moonrise, and we could enjoy a meal at the same time.

Go when the rising full moon is reflecting on the tide on the muddy beach, the moonlight is divided into one step. Simply beautiful. Plus it’s a birds paradise.

Fantastic landscape, great beaches, and apparently great fishing if you're into that. Definitely worth a look.
