There's several cute shops in Johnny Chi Lane, and based on our experience I especially recommend checking out Rockpool Broome, which has art and artisan wares. It's like a small museum featuring work by local artists, and while it's a shop first of all, it was nice just to visit, browse, and admire the artwork on display. Included were paintings, pottery, and much more. Some fine artists are represented, and one of them (Lucy) was manning the counter and happy to chat and talk about what we were looking at, which included her own lovely artwork. I'm normally not one for window shopping or wondering around stores, but I enjoyed coming here.

This quaint shopping laneway in the heart of Broome’s Chinatown district is a great place to wander through. Stop at the many shops to indulge in local arts, clothing, souvenirs and some great places to eat. This whole area has been restored and it looks the part.

Very interesting area of Broome and where Sun Pictures is located. Lots of history about the early days of diving for pearls in the old diving gear that looks more like a space suit these days. Cafes, shops selling clothes. One evening while waiting for Sun Pictures to open and the street was quiet, a Chinese man approached us to tell us even more history and his family history of the town. Very nice and informative man to talk to and it was kind of him to approach us with even more information

Read many reviews on Jonny Chi Lane before going to broome and all were saying worth the look, well surprise surprise when we got there only 6 shops out of 40 were opened. The WA government are promoting Broome as a Hiliday destination for West Australians but the West Australia businesses in Broome wont even open their doors due to the lack of workers that usually come in from overseas (backpackers) to man stores and restuarants. SO DONT BOTHER UNTIL THE COVID IS OVER.

Johnny Chi Lane is a little arcade style shopping alley in Broome with a mixture of clothing and souvenir stores with some history thrown in.
Nice to walk through and for a bit of shopping - noting some of the shops are a tad expensive for my liking.

We had a wander through this arcade that has several clothes, jewellery, sourvenir shops and cafes. If you are after cheaper RAW PEARLS keep going to the end of the shops where you'll find a very interesting little bead shop that also has a small collection of gems, rocks and pearls. The owner was delightful and super attentive to our son as he waded through his choices for a souvenir.

Johnny Chi lane hosts a number of old shops, salons, jewelry stores and several cafes in the shade.
If youre hot, and want to relax I recommend you come here. As well as being shaded and cheaper than the many highstreet cafes, these are also less crowded which add to the relaxation.
If youre heading to China town and havent been before, make sure you keep an eye out for the entrance as it is quite small.
According to the internet, Johnny Chi lane hosts a street market every Sunday, however it was not there! Maybe you'll have more luck when you visit.
I'm not sure if it was just for that weekend that I was in Broome but there were no signs of it. I was rather disappointed in that, but there is a local market near the YHA backpackers too.

Had been recommended to me, however when I saw the signage I thought not much here. However, went in any way, so much more than meets the eye. A regular maze of shops, cafes, even a shoe repair shop. We found it after a long and tiring day, so will definitely return and have a proper look. We were there at 1640hrs, so most everyone was closing up. Next time we will go in the morning, it will be cooler, and I won't be so tired.

The arcade has a cafe, fashion boutiques, jewellers, surf shops and tourist souvenirs. Its quiet and mostly covered.
There are wall plaques which progressively outline some of the colourful history of the area.

We visited the lane several times over the course of our trip to Broome to visit the shops within, great variety and undercover too.
